Welcome to the St. Peter School News Blog.
A group of 5th and 6th graders meet every Thursday during Activity period to form a Newspaper Club. We reviewed newspaper articles about St. Peter School, learned newsroom terminology, selected "beats" and learned how to write a news story using the inverted pyramid and by asking the 5 W's (who, what where, why, when). We even held a "news conference" to interview another student for a story. Over the last few weeks, the students have written stories about their topics or "beats." But since this is the 21st Century, we are not printing an actual newspaper.
Instead, we present The St. Peter School Online News Blog! Enjoy.

Preschoolers Take First Bus Ride to
Phantom Farms
By Stephanie Langevin
On Friday, September 20 2010, Preschool 4 went with the Kindergarten class on a field trip to Phantom Farm in Cumberland, RI. They had been learning about fall and apple picking in class. They went on a hay ride, picked apples, and had apple cider. Preschool teacher, Mrs. Joanne Donahue said "It was a fun time. I'm not sure which part the kids liked best, the bus ride, the hay ride, the apple picking, or the Burlap Bag Maze." Each student got a bottle of yummy apple cider to take home with them. return to top |
Was the 3rd Grade Mass the Best?
By Ryan Mantaian
At St. Peter Church on September 24th at 10:30am, the 3rd Grade did the readings at mass for the Feast Day of St. Theresa. This will be the second mass of the year. 3rd grade practiced songs with 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th grades after lunch every day that week. They also practiced readings and practiced bringing up the gifts. 5th grader Jack DeJordy said "the 3rd grade looked good." Chad Greenlaw said "it wasn't the best mass because my favorite mass is the Christmas mass." return to top |
5th Grade Teacher Went Missing!
By Gianni Martira
What happened when a teacher left her students in her classroom alone? Her students were coming back from gym and the gym teacher didn't come with them. The students were looking for someone but they didn't want to leave the classroom in case the teacher came back. So 4th grade teacher, Ms.Kane, wondered what we we're doing. We told her "we can't find our teacher." She said "Just sit down and wait for your teacher. One of you go look for her". Kara Quinn went to look for her and she was already coming up. So we were just a little late for Spanish.

Best Harvest Fest Ever!
It all happened on Friday, October 8th when last year's 8th graders return for Harvest Fest. The Parent's Guild had awesome new games and kids could win candy! They also had free popcorn (it tastes really good)! The food was good but not the best ever. The hay ride was fun and the horses were huge. They were also fun to pet. Most of the 8th graders played basketball, 5th and 6th grade played manhunt, the younger kids played games, made crafts and got their faces painted. return to top

The three top students are Dean Russo, Sam Young and Billy Roberge! They definitely earned their's and their team's ice cream. All runners did very well! Wednesday, October 20th was the last meet at Slater Park. Our top four boys are Dean Russo, Billy Roberge, Peter Cavanagh and Sam Young! The top four runners for the girls are Carrie Cavanagh, Chrissy Cavanagh, Kayla Fordham and Sophia Lawson. Congratulations to all of our runners!

Wouldn't it be cool if the teachers had to wear uniforms to school like us? On Monday September 20th, St. Peter School had their first dress down day. In school, many of the students wore jeans and a t-shirt. As for the teachers, dress down day is every day. I talked to some of the teachers and their faces were priceless, their jaws dropped. I don't think they were quite happy about having this idea racing through the school. This is a tough call but most of the students in school were with me on having the teachers wear uniforms. I think the teachers, on the other hand, were overjoyed. I really think they want to be like us, especially the younger teachers. return to top |

for Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber was crying on stage. He cried because the song he was singing was about his parents divorce. Second, Bieber was hit in the head with a water bottle. Someone from the crowd did it. He said, "Ouch! Well that didn't feel so good but I still love you guys." Lastly, he got hit with a revolving door.
Bieber became famous from a song he sang at his house. His mom put it on YouTube. A famous person found it and he told the record company.

5 Things You NEED to Know
BEFORE You Enter 5th Grade!
By Chad Greenlaw
If I knew these things I would probably gotten off to a better start. With these 5 things you will probably get off to the best start you possibly can.
1. Keep your desk clean every day because at the end of the day the Desk Inspector comes around.
2. Like it says on the poster sharpen your pencils before class begins, if not your just wasting time.
3. Always bring in your homework because 5th grade plays a game called Homeworkopaly and you can win prizes and homework passes and all sorts of cool stuff. If you don't bring in your homework you can't play.
4. Keep brushing up on your multiplication facts because you use those a lot in 5th grade.
5. Know your password 5th grade does online tests on books and if you forget your user name or password you can't get in. return to top |
Locker Issues in the Sixth Grade
By Sophia Kaczmarzyk
Reporter, Sophia Kaczmarzyk, noticed a problem with the new sixth graders learning to navigate their lockers. Here is her first-hand interview with Sixth Grader, Maria Piperata, outlining this issue.
Reporter: How long does it usually take for you to get to your locker?
Maria: It takes about 10 minutes because the boys don't understand the rule: LADIES FIRST!
Reporter: Is it frustrating?
Maria: Very!
Reporter: Why?
Maria: The boys are always in the way and won't let me go first.
That proves that locker issues will never change because boys will be boys.
