The Irish Sopranos, with their sensational voices and stunning good looks wow audiences wherever they go. Wendy Dwyer, Kay Lynch and Deirdre Masterson are the cr�me de la cr�me of Irish classical vocal talent. All three have had extensive classical training and each possesses a very distinctive, very individual voice. The voices together comprise lyric, lyric coloratura and dramatic soprano, producing a wonderful harmonic texture and lending themselves perfectly to the ravishing harmonies for which The Irish Sopranos are fast
gaining a name. Before coming together to form the group, Wendy, Kay and Deirdre
have built hugely impressive individual performance portfolios. Between them they have
vast experience on a wide variety of entertainment platforms from lead-singer with
Riverdance to soloists on the International Operatic Stage.


Wendy Dwyer

Wendy
Wendy Dwyer is originally from Cork and began her musical journey at the age of 7 as a violin student in her home town where she achieved many scholarships and awards through the course of her studies. She then went to the Cork School of Music to study singing and drama where she was the recipient of many more scholarships and prizes.
 
Wendy attended University College Cork for five years where she was awarded an Honours Bachelor of Music degree, a higher diploma in education and later received an Honours Masters degree in Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Dublin City University.
To date, Wendy has had the privilege of working with some of the singing world's most renowned teachers and coaches. These have included, the late Maeve Coughlan of the Cork School of Music; Irene Sandford of Queens University Belfast and vocal professor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music(RIAM);

Dr Veronica Dunne -Opera coach RIAM; Suzanne Murphy - Welsh National Opera; Paul Hamburger - Guild Hall School of Music and Drama(GHSMD), London; Robin Bowman - National Opera Studio and GHSMD, London; Mark Shanahan - English National Opera and GHSMD; Adrien de Peyer - School of Vocal Focus, London.

Wendy has won numerous prizes and awards in Ireland for soprano solo, lieder, opera and musical theatre competitions. She was also the recipient of the Irish Credit Union's Bursary for Most Promising Talent.

Wendy is a regular on Irish TV and radio and her recordings to date include: Wings of the Morning - Sulane Studios, Cork; Jaysan Kouchak - Abbey Road Studios, London; and the current sensational "A Time For Us" from The Irish Sopranos recorded at Silver Stream Studios Dublin. Wendy's operatic roles have included Marguerita in Faust; Papagena - The Magic Flute; Musetta - La Boheme. Recent soprano solo works include the Vivaldi Gloria and Bach Cantatas with the Cork Symphony Orchestra; a performance of modern music at the National Concert Hall, Dublin and lead role in Hot Food for Strangers, a contemporary opera by M.Ingoldsby.

Kay Lynch

Kay
Soprano, Kay Lynch, is a Communications graduate from Dublin City University. She is also an honours music graduate from The Open University and holds a Professional Performer's


Diploma from The Guildhall School of Music in London. She studied vocal technique with Dr. Veronica Dunne at The Leinster Opera Studio and with esteemed tutors in London (Lillian Watson), Zurich (Veronica Scully) and Sydney (Ron McConaghie - Sydney Conservatory).

Kay has won prizes at all the major feiseanna in Ireland in a variety of genres - Oratorio, Opera, Operetta/Music Theatre and Lieder. She was twice recipient of the Shannon Development Vocal Bursary. From 1996-2001, Kay was lead-singer with Riverdance. She toured extensively with the group and during her time as lead vocalist, the show premiered in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Germany, France and Scandinavia. She also sang the lead in Riverdance's homecoming run in The Point in summer 2000. Before Riverdance, Kay was soloist with The Bunratty Singers for two years. In 1995/1996, she sang with The National Chamber Choir, Opera Ireland, at The RTE Proms and more recently was a featured soloist with Lyric Opera.

Kay has made numerous solo television and radio appearances on shows such as The Late Late Show, Open House, Theatre Nights and The Rose of Tralee. An experienced recording artist Kay's solo album "Unconditional" blends classical style vocals with modern dance beats.

Recent solo roles have included, The title-role in Opera South-West's production of The Merry Widow, the role of Adele in Die Fledermaus with the same company and the Soprano solo role in a performance of Haydn's "The Creation".

Deirdre Masterson

Deidre
Deirdre Masterson comes from a musical family from Gorey, Co. Wexford.She Began Her Music and vocal studies at a young age at the Wexford School of Music, where at the tender age of twelve she made her Wexford Festival debut singing the 'spirit' in 'Dido & Aeneas', by Purcell. Deirdre became a regular performer at the Wexford Opera Festival over the years performing in ,precitals, concerts, operatic scenes and the main operatic attractions throughout this Internationally critically acclaimed festival.

Deirdre has won all major competitions in Ireland in Lieder, French, Opera, Oratorio, and holds the title of being one of the youngest singers ever, to win the overall vocal award in Dublin Feis Ceoil - ' The Gervase Elwes award, along with being the overall winner of the coveted Junior rose bowl.

Deirdre won a scholarship to study at the Leinster Opera Studio in Dublin for four years under the direction of Dr Veronica Dunne, where she excelled in all examinations taken in music, singing and drama studies. Awards achieved include winner of the ESB bursary in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Winner of the TSB Award in 1998 and 1999. Deirdre was also a recipient of the Fitzwilton award, which is a national award recognising outstanding achievement in ones chosen profession.

International auditions were held in Munich where Deirdre was one of four awarded a scholarship to study with the renowned Wagnarian soprano Astrid Varney. Deirdre's studies have taken her all over the world, where she has received coaching from much respected and sought after tutors in America, Canada, Germany, Austria, England, Scotland, & Wales. She made her operatic debut at eighteen with Opera Ireland playing the roles of "Sandman & Dewfairy," in Humperdincks "Hansel & Gretel." Other roles played with this company include "Papagenna" -Mozarts "Magic Flute," "Barbarina" -Mozarts "Marriage of Figaro," and "Ines" in Verdi's "Il Trovatore, all the above were performed under the age of twenty one years.

Deirdre is a much sought after soloist in concert halls throughout Europe. Her recording achievements include the award winning album 'Faith of our Fathers', the specially commissioned album to commemorate the 1798 rebellion 'Who fears to Speak', & the original casting of the first Irish dance musical 'To dance on the Moon' are among a few.

Deirdre is equally at home on the musical and theatrical stage as the operatic stage. This is more than evident in her televised performance on RTE's proms singing the music of Rogers and Hammerstein. Her repertoire extends from "Maria in West side Story," to "Desdemona's Otello." Similarly she is very familiar with television and radio broadcasts, where recently Deirdre through national radio opinion poll was recognised as one of the voices of the century.

Her more recent operatic work includes successfully playing the lead role in "Die Fledermaus," in Ireland to critical acclaim. Deirdre currently runs a stage School in her native Town Gorey, Co. Wexford, where she constantly promotes and encourages young talent from the locality.
