Giving from the Heart Campaign Moves to Fall
Spring is a time of planting new seeds, summer a time of nurturing the plants that have sprouted from our seed ideas; fall a time of harvest and gratitude, winter a time to let our fields be fallow as we celebrate this Thing called Life. We are moving our annual Giving from the Heart Pledge Campaign from spring to fall, the season of harvest and gratitude. As good stewards of the tithes you give to our center we need not only have faith, but we need to operate with an intelligent budget for each year. Pledges (promises) received during the fall campaign will be for the year 2010 and begin in January. This enables us to create a budget that reflects both the practical and the possible. Our giving month will be October. Our "jump start" event will be Karen Ramsey, a brilliant and spiritual financial planner, author of Caring for Your Soul in Money Matters. She will present her workshop at our center, co-sponsored by Village Books, on September 26th. (See the article for more information.) Karen will be our guest speaker at the Sunday service on September 27th. I will be speaking on aspects of giving and prosperity the first three weeks in October. Rev. Sharon and Paul Ramey will be speaking on the final Sunday of our Pledge Campaign, October 25th. Our board will provide a gratitude buffet after this service followed by the Ramey's prosperity workshop (See article). This workshop will be a gift from the Ramey's and from your board of trustees to our pledgers. And finally but most importantly, thank you so much for your generous support through your time, talent and treasures to our center, especially during this time of transition. We are so grateful for the richness you bring to us all in so many ways. Love and blessings, Rev. Colleen

CSL Bellingham Ministerial Search |
Hello Friends! The search process for our new Senior Minister is well underway and our planning pieces are falling together nicely. Thank you again to everyone who participated in the visioning sessions in June. Through that process we were able to gather clear messages and themes to develop a series of application questions for candidates. Reverend Colleen completed a required profile of our center (e.g. membership info, financial report, etc.) for the ICSL main office and submitted the profile and application questions for their review and posting. Reverend Colleen also posted the position announcement on a number of related listserves. We are ready to receive applications! Another exciting step in the process that has been completed is the selection of the remaining search committee members. Reverend Colleen MacGilchrist and I continue as co-chairs and Carolyn Martin, Kate Molling, Terrie Dupuis, and Bob MacGilchrist will also join the team. The search committee will meet in late August to establish an application review process, and begin meeting in mid-September to review application materials. The priority date for applications was set for September 1st, and we'll continue to accept applications until the position is filled (meaning there's not a hard closing date for applications; it's open until filled). As the committee begins the review of application materials and identifies wonderful, vibrant and fabulous candidates to invite to CSL-Bellingham for in-person interviews, we will continue to keep you informed of important dates and timelines as they are determined. I will update the special tri-fold display board about the search process with new information about the visioning session outcomes and themes and other tidbits you may find interesting. Thank you again for your prayers and KNOWING the right and perfect candidate comes to us in the right and perfect time and manner! In Service, Ronna B. | |

| Upcoming Garden Parties! |
Join Merry Teesdale for Gardening
Fun this Fall!
Hi Everyone, The gardens at Woodside have been lovely this year. Many projects have been completed including Bellingham's only Living Fence which was planted at our Gardening Day party last spring by a fun group of folks led by Joanie Nielson. The fence cover-up was part of a project to improve the look of our road frontage. The bare chain link fence to the north became a background for tall zebra grasses. Around the parking lot, the native plants were set off to good advantage by sheet mulching and a rhododendron-topped berm was added to the far end to frame the sign and border the woods. There is a new rock-edged iris garden surrounding the cement pad, thanks to Larry and Eugenia who donated the fabulous irises and to Larry Williams who donated the rocks. Our Metasequoia, the ''Dawn Redwood' has a new ground covering of peach colored irises. This tree, which was donated a couple years ago, is a critically endangered species. Once native in the U.S., it was thought to be extinct until rediscovered in China in 1944. On the walkway, the ground covers are expanding. As planned, they have already saved us many hours of weeding time as well as looking great. There is still a lot of gardening fun to be had this year. Put these Sunday dates on your calendar and join us for some outdoor fun. Wear clothes you'd like to get close to nature in, bring a picnic lunch, some gloves and tools and we'll have a great time together in the gardens. I promise to show you the secret of sheet mulching, the easiest, long-lasting weeding- soil prepping technique ever. Sept 13 "Last of Summer" Gardening Day Planting and enhancing the ground covers, clean-up, sheet mulching. October 18th "Rock-tober!" Gardening Day Uncover the rocks, Planting for winter, clean-up, sheet mulching. November 15th "Fall Frolic" Gardening Day (alternative rain date, Nov. 22) Leaf raking ruckus, Jump in the leaves contest, Leaf catching contest, Putting the gardens to bed. Release your Inner Child! Many hands make great fun! Enjoy the Fall at Woodside! |
