From the Pastor...
"Right Here...With Us?"

by Joel Domingo, Executive Pastor

One of the songs that might be heard during the Christmas season is O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.  While the melody itself carries a sort of ethereal feel to it, it is the lyrics themselves that are equally rich in meaning.   Written somewhere around the 12th century, they speak of an anticipation for an Emmanuel, (sometimes spelled, Immanuel) which literally translates to "God is with us."

The idea of God is with us is the center of what the story of Christmas is all about.   It is the unique and mysterious act whereby God decides to enter the world and into the human condition.   This act, done in love has been called the "bedrock upon which rests all subsequent acts of God in this world."

I cannot help but ponder just how incredible this mystery is, because it tells us that God isn't just concerned with the strong and powerful, but also the small and seemingly insignificant, that he offers an identification with the margins of our lives.  This is precisely what God did in Jesus-- that the divine took on a local habitation and a name and then chose to be the living example of what true love is.

This Christmas, may you be reminded of that mystery, and may it propel you to celebrate that fact that God truly is, with us!

Merry Christmas.

Pastor Joel

What did the birth of Jesus mean to those who were closest to it as it happened?  Luke's account of the birth of Jesus exclusively introduces us to several people who all experienced it very differently.  Their  stories challenge us to not simply buy refined, packaged and traditional meanings that really don't change us.  We get to grapple with these unusual witnesses and how the Christmas drama ends up as really good news for us, but not necessarily the easy news that fits on a Christmas card.

NEW! Service Team Highlight of the Week

Here at All Saints, we want the people of Seattle to know and understand the reality of an abundant life in Christ. This can only happen if we live out our faith in the same places where we live out our lives. The 1 + 1+ 1 formula is a way to bring together our faith and our personal lives to coexist as one. The formula includes 1 church gathering + 1 service team + 1 life group. In the coming weeks, we will be highlighting each service team. We want to let you know more about the awesome opportunities to get involved here at All Saints.

Concierge:
Work at the concierge desk during gatherings to help get people acquainted with all the activities, life groups and happenings at All Saints.
Hosts: Matt Jones / concierge@believedoubtseek.org

Just so you know...

The next round of groups will be launched at the end of January. If you or someone you know is interested in leading a life group, or you feel there is a specific need for a group that has not been met, please feel free to email us at lifegroups@believedoubtseek.org.

Any changes to the Sunday gatherings due to inclement weather will be posted on the website by 6:30am on Sunday morning.

We need your help at All Saints!

Here are a couple of specific ways that you can serve at All Saints!

Both the Communion team and the Hospitality team are looking for new leaders. If you are interested in helping coordinate the teams and serving here at All Saints, feel free to email us at
hospitality@believedoubtseek.org, communion@believedoubtseek.org, or life@belivedoubtseek.org.

The Office is looking for help on Thursdays. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to help out around the church by tidying up or helping us assemble the handouts for Sunday, please email life@believedoubtseek.org for more information. This is also a great way for high school students to earn community service hours.

The Reading & Announcements Team is looking for a new leader and new team members to help with announcements and reading scripture during our weekly gatherings.  If you'd like to help, please contact the office at: life@believedoubtseek.org

The Children's Ministries Team and the Nursery Team are looking for additional volunteers to help teach and assist in the classrooms and nursery on Sundays during both gatherings. If you would like to join one of these teams, please contact Tammara Beck at kids@believedoubtseek.org or Jenn Gifford at nursery@believedoubtseek.org

All Saints News is sent out regularly to the community to engage and inform people of all that takes place through All Saints Church.  This and previous updates are available on the All Saints website.

If you have any ideas, submissions, or comments, please send them to life@believedoubtseek.org
