   -Dr. Laura Washington

"Oregon's Wild Harvest is always my first choice when it comes to purchasing herbs for my products because of their very high standards in quality. When I purchase their dried herbs for my teas the herbs are recognizable! They consistently maintain the vibrant colors of the fresh plant better than any others I have seen, this is a great indication that the healing properties of the plant have also been preserved. I love that they are local, that I have visited their farm and processing facility, that they go way beyond the organic certification in their farming processes, and that I know the owners and know of their dedication to creating the finest products possible."  More details>

Biodynamic Preps
Spring Biodynamic Preps Being Applied
April showers have come and gone, and there are no May flowers to be seen. The long wet month gave us few opportunities to work the fields, but we took full advantage of the weather when it was good. We were able to put down the BD 500 prep we made a couple of weeks ago, and turn under some cover crops recently - all part of preparing the farm for future plantings.

The shovels were happy to come out of hibernation and get put to work, planting two semi truck loads of Ginkgo trees. The shovels weren't the only tools coming out to play, the hoes have been equally busy cleaning up fields of Echinacea purpurea, Valerian, Boneset and even the Goldenseal beds.

Organic Goldenseal Beds 2011Of all the herbs, the Goldenseal has received the most attention.  After getting weeded, a generous new blanket of sawdust was applied.  The shade cloth will be going up as soon as the chances for all hail storms have past.

Today the weather is great!  So, it's back outside we go!

The Top 5 for Loving Your Liver
The Most Important Organ We Never Hear About

The liver is the body's largest internal organ - and operates as the body's gateway.  Analyzing every food or liquid to come through its passages, the liver detoxifies, transforms and transports every nutrient to a different location.  Everything we eat or drink must first be broken down into different chemicals before it can get to work helping (or in a few cases, harming) the body.  That's one of the biggest jobs of the liver.  Essentially, the liver helps us digest, manufactures proteins and eliminates the things we consume but don't really need.  In addition to metabolizing and using nutrients, the liver filters the blood, keeps our electrolyte and water balanced, creates bile, and stores vitamins, minerals and sugars.  It has a big job.  It could use a little bit of help.

Simple Solutions for Loving Your Liver:
  1. Go easy on the alcohol
  2. Eat beets
  3. Take your vitamin C
  4. Avoid high fructose corn syrup
  5. Exercise

Mediterranean Lentil Soup

Mediterranean Lentil SoupThis is a very tasty lentil soup! It's perfect for a cool spring evening and packed full of antioxidant herbs and spices, vitamins, carotenoids, fiber and an excellent source of vegetable protein. It really is a very complete balanced "meal" that seems to satisfy the deepest hunger. Like many soups it freezes beautifully. Lastly, the best part about this soup is that it cooks very quickly! Now, if only we could get the kids to eat it!......

Nasal Cleansing

Organic Lemon MyrtleA very effective and pleasant method of opening and lubricating the nasal passages is to do a steam inhalation. There are many herbs that can be added to augment this process. Here are some suggestions of herbs that you may use alone, or in combination. Since some have different activities, choose at least one from each category...
