Wonderful Wintertime Herbs
This year in particular, it seems the cold and flu season has
settled in for a long, leisurely stay. The Pacific Northwest, where
Oregon's Wild Harvest organic and Biodynamic® farm grows its herbs, is
notorious for its long, wet winters -- conditions that seem to
exacerbate colds, flu, and respiratory infections.
But you need
not resign yourself to being sick at least part of the winter. The good
news is that every region of the world is home to particular herbs that
help with the health problems common to that area. The Pacific
Northwest is no exception. Several herbs which naturally grow very well
in this region just happen to aid with the prevention and recovery of winter time colds and respiratory infections. Herbal supplements can make a difference.

The Lore of Herbs at Christmas
Spiced cider, pumpkin pie, gingerbread, peppermint candy canes.....
all of these icons of the holiday season are made using spices (and
herbs). During the holiday season, many of us use spices more than any
other time of the year. These aromatic plants evoke powerful memories
of past holidays and traditions and provide comfort to us during the
harsh winter. Nowadays, they are enjoyed for their rich aroma and
flavor, but their role in history is fascinating and evolved due to
their numerous valuable properties.
This article will explore some of the key herbs and spices, and their history and connection to the holiday season.

I'm Dreaming of a Green(er) Christmas
The holiday season for most of us stirs up childhood nostalgia as we
re-live those memories with our families. This year, I am going to get
really nostalgic- and am reflecting back to a time when we weren't
surrounded by imported plastic from China. I am showing my age here,
but there was a time for me when Christmas was not associated with
consumerism, and simple traditions were more sustainable and organic. I
decided that this year, my holidays were going to be simpler and
greener.
Soon after this realization, I was afraid that my new holiday
habits would resemble a Charlie Brown scene, but then I reflected that
the Christmas of my youth was not about excess, but about simple
pleasures such as singing carols, making home-made Christmas
decorations and cards, going to the theater, baking, enjoying the
lights and smells of the city of London (on a double-decker bus), and
most importantly, family togetherness. So, "Bah Humbug" I say. I hope
that you will join me in the quest for a green(er) Christmas.

Children's Echinacea Goldenseal (Alcohol-Free)
This premium glycerite is made by extraction in alcohol, followed by
removal of the alcohol. The potent concentrate is then re-suspended in
vegetable glycerin. This two-step process captures the active
constituents that are naturally present in this herb. No artificial
ingredients have been added. The original extracts were made using
plants that are harvested at their peak potency from the fertile
volcanic soils of our certified organic farm. More details>

Astragalus Reishi, Organic
This combination of two very important herbs is widely used in
traditional Chinese medicine. The organic Reishi is carefully grown on
organic millet to nurture its level of polysaccharides. The organic
Astragalus root is classified as premium grade due to the age and the
size of the root. Studies have shown that the active components are
concentrated in the primary roots, and that the levels are highest in
older roots. More details> |
