GALA was organized to promote the arts as an essential component of a healthy community. We believe that artistic expression is a community's greatest legacy for future generations. GALA will increase awareness and appreciation of the arts by way of exhibits, instruction, theater productions, musical programs and provision of scholarships to students in local schools.

Len Haug Juried into Danforth Art Museum Exhibit

Image Len Haug-In the Shade of My Farm House Congratulations to Len Haug!

His collage, In the Shade of My Farm House, was juried into the Danforth Art Museum's highly competitive 2012 Community of Artists Exhibit. There were over 500 artists and over 1400 entries.
Only 15% of all entries were juried into the show, so Len is very happy that one of his collages has been included. The show will run from June 3 until August 5. The museum is located in Framingham, MA. For more details about the museum and this exhibit please visit their website.

Peter Granucci Workshop Presented by Monadnock Area Artists Association
"Water, Water EverywherePlein-Air Workshop with Peter Granucci
Peter would like to focus on painting water in the landscape. He looked at locations and decided to keep it simple and just use historic downtown Harrisville for the entire class. It has lots of different types of water to paint (still, rushing, ponds...), various kinds of views, and great compositions readily available. It isn't required that you always paint the water scenes as there are so many other great subjects there. Peter has generously lengthened the class times (at no extra cost to you) so there is time for each class to have a short lesson associated with it, plenty of time to paint and a group critique at the end.
Class runs Wed. evenings, June 20 - August 8 (7 classes), no class on July 4.
Rain dates: Thursdays, same timeFor more info.
Meeting GALA Annual Member Meeting
Date:        Monday June 25, 2012, 7-9 pm
Location:  Elks Lodge 31 Park St., Gardner, MA

In his talk titled "The Role the Arts Can Play in Revitalization", guest speaker Jerry Beck will discuss how the arts in central MA can affect the rebirth of the area and how the members of GALA can play a part. Following the talk, we will have Breakout Sessions, where small groups talk among themselves about a particular subject, and then report back to the larger group on the ideas created. You may choose from a list of topics to discuss or design your own focus. Here is a list of potential topics/questions for the Breakout Sessions:
  • What more could GALA provide to its members?
  • What kind of feedback for GALA do you have to share?
  • What features should compose a GALA Art Show?
  • Should GALA pursue its own Art Center?
  • Does GALA need to re-visit its Mission Statement?
  • What can GALA do to engage the youth and community?
  • How can GALA be more supportive to musicians?
