GALA was organized to promote the arts as an essential component of a healthy community. We believe that artistic expression is a community's greatest legacy for future generations. GALA will increase awareness and appreciation of the arts by way of exhibits, instruction, theater productions, musical programs and provision of scholarships to students in local schools.

Beauty is all around us; ugliness too. The frightening thing is how easy it is to become so inured to both that we don't notice the difference. Art can help us here. It serves to help us escape the ordinary, and in that escape, we discover again what it means to be human. So, is this why I'm an artist? No, nothing so noble. It's fun; I like to see what I can do and I really enjoy the occasional pat on the back when I do something well. But I also hope that once in a while my work will rise to the occasion and give someone a glimpse of life with innocent eyes.

Digital photography has offered photographers a tremendous degree of control in creating and printing color images. These benefits are also available to those who are interested in creating dynamic black and white photographs. In this workshop you will learn why you should photograph in color with your digital camera in order to create the best black and white images. At the Sharon Arts Center state of the art digital imaging lab, you will learn how to use PhotoShop techniques to get the most out of your black and white images. Participants are encouraged to bring their own photographs to work on during the workshop. The workshop will include lecture, demonstration and "hands-on" work.
