GALA was organized to promote the arts as an essential component of a healthy community. We believe that artistic expression is a community's greatest legacy for future generations. GALA will increase awareness and appreciation of the arts by way of exhibits, instruction, theater productions, musical programs and provision of scholarships to students in local schools.

Morning Light

New England in a Different Light - Infrared New England Landscapes, an exhibition of infrared photography by GALA photographer Guy D. Biechele opened at the Museum of Science, Boston, on Jan. 22.  These photographs show New England landscapes in a way you've never seen them before.  Using digital cameras with special infrared filters Biechele captures photographs using near-infrared light rather than visible light.  The world looks different when seen with infrared light.  Foliage reflects large amounts of infrared light and looks bright, sometimes even white.  Blue sky and water absorb large amount of infrared light and become very dark.  The look of infrared photographs has been described as "serene" and "other worldly".  Examples of Biechele's infrared photography can be viewed on his web site at www.guybiechele.com. The exhibition runs until April 3, 2011.

Understanding Your DSLR Camera

Saturday, March 12, 2011   10:00 am - 2:30 pm

Sharon Arts Center,  457 Route 123, Sharon, NH

Your DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera is a powerful photographic tool.  It is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the choices they offer - metering and exposure modes, lens choices, flash options, JPEG vs. RAW, etc.  Learn how to take advantage of the flexibility of your DSLR to become a better photographer.  This workshop will help you to make the most of you DSLR whether you use your camera for family portraits, landscapes, or other subjects.  Participants should bring their DSLR, camera manual, and any accessories such as lenses, flash attachments, filters, etc for discussion.  Also bring some photographs in RAW format on a CD or camera card.
To register or for course fee, see the Sharon Arts Center course catalog or call 603-924-7256.
