GALA was organized to promote the arts as an essential component of a healthy community. We believe that artistic expression is a community's greatest legacy for future generations. GALA will increase awareness and appreciation of the arts by way of exhibits, instruction, theater productions, musical programs and provision of scholarships to students in local schools.

Digital photography has offered photographers a tremendous degree of control in creating and printing color images.  These benefits are also available to those who are interested in creating dynamic black and white photographs.
In this workshop you will learn why you should photograph in color with your digital camera in order to create the best black and white images.  At the Sharon Arts Center state of the art digital imaging lab, you will learn how to use PhotoShop techniques to get the most out of your black and white images.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own photographs to work on during the workshop.  The workshop will include lecture, demonstration and "hands-on" work.

Colored Pencil Workshop with Gary Ruuska

Painting with Pencils: Colored Pencil Still Life
Saturday,   March 27,  10 am - 4 pm
This workshop is designed for those with some drawing experience. Working from a still life setup, you will make a quick line drawing. Then the real fun begins! Mix and layer color to create a colored pencil "painting" with the illusion of depth and form. Using colored pencils and a sanded board designed for pastel artists, you will experience the painterly possibilities of this exciting medium. The instructor will supply colored pencils, but you are encouraged to bring any pencils you already have. This workshop is especially designed for colored pencil artists who normally work with photos and for those new to the medium.
For more information, see the Sharon Arts Center Winter Catalog or call 603-924-7256.
