GALA was organized to promote the arts as an essential component of a healthy community. We believe that artistic expression is a community's greatest legacy for future generations. GALA will increase awareness and appreciation of the arts by way of exhibits, instruction, theater productions, musical programs and provision of scholarships to students in local schools.

Greetings!
Our GALA Fall Art Show & Sale was a tremendous success!

The Friday night reception was very well attended and enjoyed by all. An estimated 300 people attended the show over the course of the weekend.

We want to thank all of the wonderful people who made the show possible (see list).

A special thanks goes to the following volunteer coordinators whose skill and hard work were instrumental in the success of the show: Vicki Heidorn-Overall Event; Luis Gonzalez-Music; Chris Grossman-Raffle; Joanne Holtje-Artist Statements; Anna Ruuska-Art Drop Off & Data; Jan Queijo (aided by Chris Grossman)-Art Shop; Chuck Heidorn-Installation; Ed Schneeflock-Publicity Material; and Sally Sargent-Show Location.

Please patronize the businesses and thank the individuals that donated and tell them that you appreciate their generous support of the arts (see list).

We want to express our appreciation to the Polish American Citizens Club (PACC) for their generosity in hosting our event at their beautiful facility!

Thank you to our distinguished judges: Gregory J. Barry, Rebecca Cinclair and Joan Sinatra Hathaway for a difficult job well done!

And of course, we want to express our gratitude to the artists and musicians who shared their marvelous artwork and talent with us!

Congratulations to the People's Choice Award winners:

2nd place: Len Haug for "Aunt Lottie-The Hat Lady"

I have never thought of myself as an artist. But if being an artist is wanting others to see whatever you see that is beautiful, surprising or thought-provoking, then I'm willing to concede that I just might be one. I'm drawn to nature as a subject and its macro world in particular. The camera allows me to share the delightful secrets found within this realm.

With a quarter century of working with computers and electronic information, it is not surprising that I did not begin taking pictures until digital photography came into its own. I love the spontaneity that the digital medium provides. It affords me the best opportunity to capture what I am trying to convey.

For me, photography is not about portraying reality and in fact, the images rarely reflect what my eyes perceived. I think a camera transforms the object or scene and I am always eager to be surprised by the outcome.

Pianist/composer
Adam Bergeron
proudly announces the release of his tenth CD, "Imagine" featuring 11 spontaneous compositions for solo piano.

As a pianist and composer Mr. Bergeron has been described as "emotionally charged" and "captivating", often leaving listeners mesmerized by the depth and sonority of his music.
Several more of Adam's recordings are to be released in 2010.

Colored Pencil Workshop with Gary Ruuska
  Colored Pencil Explorations
Saturday,   December 12,   10 am - 3 pm
Discover how the deceptively simple and convenient medium of colored pencil can be used to create wonderfully complex and detailed works of art on a marble-dust coated board. Working from a photograph and line drawing provided by the instructor, we will focus on layering techniques for building color, texture and form. We will also discuss the best ways to seal and protect your new creation so that it can be displayed like a painting, without glass.

For more information, see the Sharon Arts Center Fall Catalog or call 603-924-7256.
