GALA Newsletter GALA was organized to promote the arts as an essential component of a healthy community. We believe that artistic expression is a community's greatest legacy for future generations. GALA will increase awareness and appreciation of the arts by way of exhibits, instruction, theater productions, musical programs and provision of scholarships to students in local schools.

LINQ CD Release & Song Nomination
|
Royalston singer/songwriter Linq has released a new full-length CD called Rx and the Side Effects. These songs were derived from her personal experiences as both a pharmacist and independent pharmacy owner. The tales are intense, lyrically rollicking from tongue-in-cheek comedies to tear-jerking tragedies as clever melodies drive the messages home. They add an insider's voice to the ongoing debate on health care reform.
Also, Linq's song "Change the Picture" was one of 22 nominees in the Political Song category in the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards, literally the largest music awards in the world with 42,000 albums and 560,000 songs received. Linq headed to Nashville to attend the Awards Show on Saturday August 29th at the Wildhorse Saloon. The results will be posted at www.justplainfolks.org.

Colored Pencil Classes & Workshop with Gary Ruuska |
Adventures in Colored Pencil
8 weeks (Sept. 29-Nov. 17)
Session
1: Tuesdays, 10 am -1
pm
Session 2: Tuesdays, 6 - 9 pm
In this class we will explore techniques for creating colored pencil drawings with depth and vibrancy. Learn to build bold and exciting color using a gradual layering technique. Various techniques, papers and boards will be discussed. Students will begin by working from photographs and line drawings provided by the instructor. In the later weeks we will have the opportunity to work inside from a still-life setup, or outside (weather permitting) from nature. We will also discuss options for protecting and presenting your finished work based on the chosen work surface. Join us for a season of in-depth colored pencil exploration! Beginners welcome.
Colored Pencil Explorations
Saturday, December 12, 10 am-3 pm
Discover how the deceptively simple and convenient medium of colored pencil can be used to create wonderfully complex and detailed works of art on a marble-dust coated board. Working from a photograph and line drawing provided by the instructor, we will focus on layering techniques for building color, texture and form. We will also discuss the best ways to seal and protect your new creation so that it can be displayed like a painting, without glass.
