With today's frantic pace it can be
difficult to find the time to exercise properly. A morning workout is
one way to make certain your exercise routine doesn't get lost in the
shuffle. It also has some unexpected results besides keeping you fit and
helping control your weight.
If you are like most people nowadays
you're probably living a hectic life, filled with comings and goings,
trying to meet the needs of loved ones and friends, the demands of your
boss, the requirements of a career, plus cope with the daily ups and
downs that life throws your way, rushing here and there to get it all
done with no time for a break in between. With so much to do and so
little time in which to accomplish it all, it's easy to let your
personal needs fall by the wayside. After all, who has time for exercise
when you can't even find five minutes for breakfast?
- Get the job done. It's important that you utilize
this extra time promptly in the early morning and not postpone your
workout until later in the day. If you keep putting exercise off
because you find the idea unpleasant or have too many other things to
do, the end result is that eventually you will run out of time and end
up having to forego your workout altogether. Starting out bright and
early will ensure that you accomplish your goal.
- Automatic Wake-up. Begin rising at the same time
every morning and going to bed at the same time each night. If you
stick with this pattern, your internal clock will become accustomed to
this routine. It will then wake you up without the need for an alarm.
- Increased Rate of Metabolism. We all know that
exercising helps you burn calories, but did you know the process
continues even after you're through with your workout? It's because
your metabolism
has speeded up and you are burning extra calories. This effect lasts
for 30 to 60 minutes after you have stopped exercising. The amount of
calories you lose depends on the difficulty of the workout.
- More Rested. A regular exercise routine will ultimately leave you
feeling energized for the rest of the day. That's a good thing for the
daytime. But an evening workout will stimulate your body even more,
and this will deprive you of a thorough sleep. You'll awake feeling
tired instead of refreshed. Exercising in the morning, even if you have
to force yourself, will improve your sleep pattern at night and you
will awaken with your energy renewed and ready to start the day.
- Oxygen. Another advantage of a morning workout is that the activity will increase
the oxygen supply to your brain. You will feel more alert, and your
brain will thank you for it.
One recent study noted that yoga - a popular morning activity - can
help
prevent the dreaded middle-age spread and even help shed unwanted
pounds.
Researchers looked at normal and overweight men and women who practiced
yoga
regularly (at least one session of 30 minutes or more per week) for four
years
or more. It compared their weight with the weight of people who didn't
do
yoga.
