"Wisdom is knowing what to do next; Skill is knowing how to do it, and Virtue is doing it."

Just like the date 2012, January 1st challenges us to recognize that we have to make the changes we want now to get the results we want later. However, New Year's resolutions are, most often, not resolute.
Procrastination is the greatest obstacle to change. The idea that we can do something later, often leads to not doing it. Our fears and insecurities generate reasons for putting off the actions that will achieve our goals. They trap us in a cycle of endless repitition that leads to predictable results. The mystery of Karma is simple, "you reap what you sow."
The gift of indigenous wisdom keepers is the knowledge that we are part of - not separate from - the creation. The idea that we are all connected and are the "keepers" of our brothers and sisters is not just theoretical. Our personal and planetary fates are in our keeping.
As we observe what some refer to as "earth-changes" - in economies, ecologies and societies - we have a choice to see these "disasters" as something outside our control - or, as an outer manifestation of the collapse of our current way of being in the world. We need to reverse the results of selfishness, greed and indifference.
The top priority on many people's list of resolutions is to lose weight and get in shape. This is certainly admirable - but what good will fitness do if the earth will not support our lives? Today, we are being asked to broaden our definition of who we are and what we are about. We need to live the idea that we are all connected by doing what we can to improve the lot of others.
There is magic in giving. When we reach out to the larger collective - we raise the vibration of the world - as well as our own. Let's use today's crises as a beacon to show us where our light is needed.
Shine on, great ones!
