Neither rain nor hail, thunder nor lightning has kept our volunteer groups from coming out to help the mural project
in June.

AMP has grown tremendously these past six months. Schools, rotary clubs, and community events have all asked for AMP talks and PowerPoints. Since it is important to try and fit in time for working on the actual mural, I have found it difficult to accept many of these requests.

Not anymore! A fantastic group of enthusiastic volunteers met with Shari, Rebecca, and me at the mill last Thursday to learn more about AMP so they could take over. Two days later some of these volunteers were already out in force at AMP's booth in the Connecticut Day Celebration on Main Street in Torrington.

Report back from the day: slam dunk. Our volunteers explained all aspects of the project as well as I have ever
done it. Looks as if it is possible to clone me after all.

Scary thought.

The William and Alice Mortensen Foundation recently awarded AMP a $5,000 grant to help support the educational activities associated with an upcoming exhibit being held at the Hartford Public Library.  Coming this November, AMP will have an exhibit and a month full of educational activities at the Library. These activities will be free and open to the public and will include workshops for kids, adults, and seniors. Many thanks to the Mortensen Foundation for their support of AMP!

CT Day CT Day Open House

AMP was asked to participate at Torrington's CT Day Open House last Saturday. This was another first for AMP as we were fortunate enough to rely entirely on our volunteers to make this happen. A huge thank you to Judy Albright, Cynthia Conklin, Kim Hohlfeld and Jaine Perotti who spent the day on Torrington's Main Street informing the passerbys about the project.
Tim Marks moved mural pieces back and forth from the mill and flew our 6 foot weather balloon 48 feet in the air to represent the finished height of the mural. This was a total group effort and proved how much can be accomplished by AMP volunteers.

AMP color elev Volunteer Training

Last week 12 people gathered at the mill for our first volunteer training session. The excitement generated by those who were able to attend was contagious. Ellen and AMP's consultant, Rebecca Bryan, were on hand to answer many question about the history of the project, preparing the way for the next step in spreading the word about AMP.

AMP volunteers in attendance: Judy Albright, Helen Barakauskas, Alan Colavecchio, Cynthia Conklin, Lisa Gaffney, Linda Kirshner, John Lavieri, Kathy Reddy, Mark Ronaldes, and JoAnn Ryan. If you are interested in being an AMP volunteer, let us know by replying to this email.

AMP Members' ReceptionAMP Members' Reception

The sun came out just 15 minutes before our first annual Members' Reception. Members and friends enjoyed a tour of the mill, great food, and plenty
of conversation about AMP. Many thanks to our Development Committee for the work it took to
put this event on.

The American Mural Project is a three-dimensional painting so large that a
special building is being created for it. It is a celebration of American ingenuity
and commitment to work.  The Project seeks to inspire, to invite collaboration,
and to reveal to people of all ages the many contributions they can make to
