entreamigos Newsletter  March 2009
library Dear Friends,

The first chapter in the story of entreamigos is coming to a close.

In four weeks, April 15th, 2009 entreAmigos will close both the library and store for many reasons that include the expiration of our lease and the reality that we have long since outgrown our small library and must find a larger space.

Although we were not planning on writing a suspense novel as we live the history of entreamigos, it appears that we are not quite sure how the second chapter of our story will unfold.  Several weeks ago, we received verbal permission to move into the Bodega that we have been requesting for three years, but we still do not have in our hands the signed letter that makes it all real.

In addition we are running up against a deadline to realize the generous grant of the Three Swallows Foundation that is also a key factor in having the funding necessary to create a truly effective community and educational space in the Bodegas.

In our hearts and minds we know that this letter must come,  that the children of this community and their future are the most important threads in the fabric of community life that we both treasure and defend and that the government must do their part.  In the coming weeks I may ask you to make a phone call, sign a petition, write a letter or wear a big bright yellow shirt and jump around in front of the governor's house (just kidding...well, sort of), as we are not only hoping that the letter arrives, but insisting that it does.

I have been deeply touched by the number of people who have expressed their concern and support of entreamigos.  Please keep us in your thoughts, join us at our upcoming events, and know that the work that he have started will not end with the closing of our doors on Tercer Mundo.

Entreamigos has always functioned  in the backyards, streets, alleys and schools and in the spirit and goodwill of all who participate, we will continue to do so.

take care,

nicole

A Grand Success!
A giant Thank You to the many, many people who helped to make the entreamigos Children's Art Festival Fundraiser a success.  It was a beautiful evening filled with delicious food, beautiful art and wonderful friends and supporters.  If you stayed late and danced... it was even better!   kids art fundraiser
In addition to being a great evening it was also a good fundraiser for us as EVERY SINGLE PIECE of Children's Art sold at the auction!   We raised $33,087pesos after expenses, that will go towards childrens programs at entreamigos.  In addition we received several pledge commitments towards our dream for a new space.

skateboards for kidsYouth Skaters make big moves in San Pancho
Fourteen year old Silas, who lives and skateboards in Berkley, California decided to see what he could do to bring skating to San Pancho. He and his friend Daniel gathered used and new skateboards and tons of gear and brought it with them on their recent family trip to Mexico.  These cool kids not only gave away 20 skateboards but they also organized a beach cleanup, visited local schools and gave two days of demonstrations and classes to localkids!  Thanks boys for your initiative and hard work, you are an example to many others!!

Some of you may remember our very first fundraising art benefit event hosted at the beautiful home of local residents Dianne and Ron Neumann.  Recently Ron opened a new Real Estate office, Sayulita Coastal Properties, and didn't forget entreAmigos while doing so.  He has offered to give 10% of any commission earned in his office to entreAmigos for properties listed or sold in San Pancho. If you choose to use the services of Sayulita Realty, please mention  that you are friends of entreAmigos.
