entreamigos Newsletter September 2008
circus show recicla parque Dear Friends,

We have been so busy working with the children of San Pancho that we nearly forgot to keep everyone updated on all of our activities!

This newsletter hopes to share with you some of the special moments and amazing experiences of the past few months. The Summer Workshops, Planta San Pancho, the opening of Recicla Parque and so many other activities that serve to remind us how truly lucky we are to have been able to play a part in bringing these opportunities to the children of San Pancho.  As always, we owe the success of all our events to the tremendous volunteer and private sector support of entreamigos in San Pancho.  THANK YOU!!

As summer comes to a close we are resting briefly and preparing for another year of opportunities for families in San Pancho.  The entreamigos store and library will re-open in the first weeks of October. As many of you already know, entreamigos will need to relocate in January and we are working hard at finding an alternative and hopefully more permanent home. The coming year will be critical for the future of entreamigos, we will share the details in an upcoming email but as always, we appreciate your interest and support.

Take care,

nicole

recicla parque slideRecicla Parque... we're almost there!
When the students of the Escuela Primaria en San Pancho returned to classes August 18th they were able to enjoy the new Recicla Parque playground at their school.  This entreamigos community project started May 24th when 400 parents, school children, private enterprise and community volunteers joined together to build a playground almost entirely from recycled materials and is now beginning to enter the final phase of construction.  We plan a grand inauguration and thank you event for November.  To learn more about the Recicla Parque project, please visit www.reciclaparque.wordpress.com
Three Swallows logo Thank You Three Swallows!
In March, 2008 entreamigos was the recipient of a $30,000usd grant from The Three Swallows Foundation.  This grant was dedicated towards general operating and program costs and allowed entreamigos to embark on many new and exciting projects.  The six months of funding ended in August and we want to thank Michael Moore and Robin Temple for their generosity and vision in choosing entreamigos as recipients!

The Three Swallows foundation has made additional matching grant funds available to entreamigos for construction at the Bodegas.  We look forward to telling you more about this exciting opportunity!

hawaiian dance girls Summer Workshops Success!!
The 2008 summer workshops were even bigger and better than ever!  With 42 different classes and more than 50 volunteers we brought new and exciting opportunities to the children of San Pancho.  The Highlight of this summer was the Circus Troupe from Barcelona, Spain that dazzled us with the children in the grand clausura event.
The Summer Workshops classes brought new experiences to more than 150 San Pancho children, including a special focus this year on jr. high students and our first ever classes for adults!   Together, we cooked, danced, clowned, played, learned, painted, mosaiced, celebrated and swam our hearts out!  Thank you to everyone who helped make Summer Workshops 2008 a success!
planta san pancho crowd 600 people at Planta San Pancho!
This year's Planta San Pancho reforestation reflected the growing unity of the San Pancho community around concerns for protection of the environment.  Together, public, private, and government interests planted 1000's of new trees and plants along the river and in designated locations around town.  600 volunteers including officials from SEMARNAT and CONAFOR showed up for the big day and we appreciate a grant from the Emerald Coast Foundation and operational support from CitiCorp for helping to provide free food and t-shirts for everyone who participated.

recycle bins New Recycle Bins for San Pancho!
In collaboration with the Riviera Recicla partnership of organizations working in Punta de Mita, Sayulita, Bucerias and San Pancho to bring sustainable recycling solutions to the region and thanks to a grant from the Punta de Mita Foundation...  San Pancho has 20 new recycling bins located around town.  You can place your plastic, glass and aluminum in any of the bins and we will collect and recycle them!  To see a short video about the Riviera Recicla partnership check out

 cine kidsentreamigos Cine Class presents...
The entreamigos cinematography class was created under the direction of Luz Herrera and Walter Fehrmann with the intention of teaching Jr. High kids the beginning skills needed to create their own videos and with the long term intention of creating a video history of the daily life of san pancho from the eyes of the children.  The kids learned a lot and created and acted in their own short films.  Check them out here... http://mx.youtube.com/watch?v=_wvkFBJQztE

We are looking for continued funding for this important class and at this important time of change in San Pancho.  We hope to create a video archive of San Pancho by the people of San Pancho.  If you are interested in helping to sponsor the cost of this class please contact Nicole.
colima mural Sharing our skills.... in Colima!
With the intention to share the gifts of San Pancho with other communities, entreamigos joined up with ProjectAmigo in Cofradia de Suchitlan, Colima and helped them to paint a beautiful mural on the white walls of the library.  The kids and community responded beautifully and we greatly appreciate the help of entreamigos logo designer,  Ana Ramos in the artistic inspiration and direction on the day of the event.   It was great fun and we hope to be able to do more art and community outreach projects in the coming year.  If you know of a community in need and a local organization willing to help...  let us know!

the girls! We're Official!!  ...in mexico!
Yippee!! We finally received our A.C. status!  entreamigos san pancho a.c.  is now an official Non Profit in Mexico.  This status does not have the same tax ramifications as our U.S. Non Profit status but helps tremendously in negotiations with the government and other organizations.  It's been a long road... see our BIG SMILES!

Indira and Plantate (on my right and left... actually and figuratively) are one of the primary reasons entreamigos is able to do so much.  I love you girls!! ...and thank you!
