"Mysterious Lives: The Power of Synchronicity" by Marilyn Atkinson, PhD

We need to celebrate synchronicities. The brain is local. The mind is non local. Synchronicities remind us of this in many surprising ways. My life journey seems to be designed to show me this again and again.

Always the reminders fall in all four quadrants of our living consciousness and can be recognized when we search for areas of gratitude. I can tell you some of mine. You can also find your own, and I urge you to share them. The first two of the four quadrant doorways, the doorways of our communal space, from the social, I-You conversations (quadrant two), to the far reaches of Meaningful We space, (quadrant four), are palpable with inner synchronicities. For two people to fall "in love" together at exactly the right time and to create deep meaning in each other's lives is amazing in itself.

The quadrant one doorway, creativity, has provided me with many surprises, slowly manifesting across the years. Again and again I have watched the ideas and realizations gifted to me 20 years ago become first, local fads, and then later, global trends. Three days ago I showed a Korean friend with whom I was discussing writing a book, some unfinished books on my computer about Brain and Neuroscience, (written in early 90's), Four Quadrant Thinking, (early 80's), and Heart-Mind Connectivity, and ' The Art and Science of Coaching,' (mid 90's). He laughed at the dates and the contents. "These are the richest topics in coaching communities today," he said, and you were writing about them 15 years ago!"  Hmm! Interesting synchronicity.

The most surprising area of synchronicity for all of us is quadrant 4, the physical area.  This continues to be true for me. One woman who had heard many of the stories I tell in seminars told me she found so much synchronicity hard to believe. Me too!

She pointed out my story of finding a comfortable dry cave one minute before a fierce coastal storm as really incredulous. She also marvelled at the intervention of the highly skilled 'lasso artist,' mysteriously appearing with both huge talent and two ropes of long length on an isolated coast just before my almost certain death from an incoming tide where I was alone and completely trapped.

Yet, there have been many other such synchronicities. My life has been filled with them and I suggest you can also find them in your life as well.

Here is another example.  It just happened to me yesterday. First part, which happened two weeks ago in Istanbul, 15 million people, is wonderful in itself. Planning to fly to China on a "less than well known" airline I learned I would be charged 750 dollars in overweight, (60 dollars per kilo,) for the flight. A friend just 'happened to know' someone in this airlines ticketing department in Istanbul, and pleaded my case as a person worthy of exemption. Through her efforts the exemption was granted. With strong gratitude I made the journey!

Now two days ago in Seoul Korea, a city of 8 million, I am just about to leave for the airport for Paris when I remember I am on the very same airline and will once again face the overweight issue.  750 dollars for twelve kilos is a lot, yet I must carry it on a two month trip. I am in a large seminar room alone, having just said goodbye to 60 people.  I scold myself for having forgotten this airline challenge.

At this point I inwardly 'wished' to the universe of inward friends that I had another 'angel' to handle my luggage overweight. Clearly I sent an inner message from 'Seoul to Soul' because the result was not just one but two synchronicities. The first happened immediately. Just at that moment a woman came in the door wanting to give me her business card before I left. You guessed it!  Of all people in Seoul Korea she had 'Airlines Consultant' written on her card. She knew the Seoul director of the lesser known airline, and in 5 minutes, when asked, arranged my passage with the extra kilos. As you must imagine I threw forth thoughts of great gratitude as I drove to the airport.

The next synchronicity happened at the airport. When explaining my kilo exemption to the ticketing girl at the wicket I pulled out and handed her the wrong business card, one from another woman. The situation was quickly sorted out and as someone called the Airline director to confirm my exemption she fingered this 'wrong' card and asked me about myself. I briefly told her that I was training Solution Focused Coaching in Seoul and that the woman from the second card had been in my course. "I know her well" said the young woman in faltering English. "I was just thinking about her just before you came to me.  I honour her so much, she has changed my life. We are in a small health circle together.  She has regained her health and now really helps me. And you are teaching her!"

One hour later, face flushed, she shook my hand just before I was about to board the plane. She had upgraded me to first class and I found myself in a wonderful, fully-furnished sleeping compartment for the long flight. Great gratitude!

Just another synchronicity? I seem have a life full of them! Perhaps you do too, and do not notice them. You may say to me that some people just have lucky lives. Maybe, maybe more, much more!

The brain is local. The mind is non local. Our lives are wonderfully mysterious! Synchronicity is a delicious 'shock therapy' reminder to stay awake to the deep mystery; to stay deeply grateful for the surprises that life sends to us, and to give back the amazing love that life gives to us.

"Back to the fundamentals of business building: Your first step in your marketing campaign: Credo"
By Teresia LaRocque, MCC
teresiaHello fellow coaches,

As the due date of our first child is approaching (3 short weeks away) and I prepare for three months of "baby leave", I have decided that instead of taking "baby leave" from sharing business principals with you in our monthly newsletter, I have pulled some archive newsletters that I have shared with you years ago. I pulled three that I feel are the fundamental principals in turning your Passion of coaching into Profit. Keeping in mind repetition is the mother of skill.

What would happen if this summer as you embrace the wonderful experiences summer has to offer and also commit to taking your business foundation to the next level? Over the summer months I will share with you principals that when mastered can transform the way you do business.  Are you in?

This month let's begin with the area of your business that is the key to creating revenue - marketing!  Marketing starts when someone asks you "what do you do?"
When this happens, what do you say? More importantly, how do you feel?

This is a pivotal moment, it is a chance to communicate your business to a captive audience that could very well become a paying client or a referral source.

Do you freeze up? Feel nervous? Walk away thinking, "I could have handled that better..."?  Do you know what your company stands for? Can you explain it with conviction and confidence? This is key, as entrepreneurs, one of our biggest challenges is getting the word out about who we are and what we do, and doing so in a way that makes people want to work with us.  If you don't sound clear and confident when you speak about your own business, how is your listener or prospect going to believe in your work?

A well-developed and practiced credo is a critical component of any marketing plan. What is a "credo"? The word was originally used to signify a statement of religious beliefs; the Latin definition is literally "I believe." In the modern world, the term has been adopted by businesses to state the fundamental components of the business. The longer versions might include a company's mission, who it serves, its values and ambitions... in other words, everything the company stands for.

Your credo is the heart of how you represent your work to prospects - both in print and in face-to-face interactions. If you find networking a bit uncomfortable, it's probably because you don't have a strong credo to leverage in conversations with strangers.

What I want for you is to feel excited to share who you are, what you do, who you love to work with, and how you make a difference, this is the beginning of attracting business, the business you want. We like to say that a strong credo is the window to the soul of a business. When said with clarity and conviction, you engage people right away by telling them about the difference you make to other people. You also give them much of what they need in order to determine whether you're a fit for their needs. In that one minute (more or less), you stand in the gateway to more clients, more business, more profit and more success.

To help you wrap your mind around this concept, here's an example of one of my credos:

I am the founder of a life-changing business-building program called Passion into Profit. We work with new coaches who want to grow their business and may suffer from isolation and low motivation. Our clients thrive in an empowering environment that provides foundational support, coaching tools and strategies to build profitable businesses.

Make a commitment to yourself to devote time this month to developing or improving your credo.  Having a credo that resonates with your soul and captures the essence of your business is the first step in creating an effortless and fun marketing campaign.

For a complimentary recording on specific steps on building your credo, visit www.passionintoprofitforcoaches.com (Go half way down on right hand column)

Tune in next month for business building fundamental number two!

"4 Learning Stages to Master a Skill" by Gaby Da Silva

Gaby Da SilvaFrom the moment you were born, you entered a life of perpetual learning.  You learned to breathe on our own in just a few seconds because you had to, you learned to crawl and walk because it served you and with time, you learned new skills and tried to achieve new goals because you wanted to.  This learning cycle reoccurs continuously throughout your life.

You have the privilege as human beings to go beyond learning the necessary.  You can learn to be Olympic athletes, you can challenge yourselves and everyone around you to break records in amazing feats and you can become successful beyond your wildest imagination.

You decide to learn a new skill, a new way of being or a new thought process.  But you don't always succeed.  So what differentiates the successful from the defeated? Unwavering perseverance is the difference.  Sometimes, simply understanding that your obstacles and fears are a normal stage in your learning process can give you the push you need to persevere on to the next, easier, stage of learning.

Erickson College explains the 4 learning stages within the first Module of their Training Program so their coaches understand the emotions they will come across with their clients and with themselves.  Understanding the 4 learning stages helps reduce anxiety and reinforce self-confidence when confronted with difficulties.

4levels

The Unconscious Incompetence is a pre-learning stage, you are in this stage before starting to learn something new; so in essence, it is present when "you don't know that you don't know" something.  For example, before trying to walk, you didn't know that you didn't know how to walk.

The Conscious Incompetence.  This is when perseverance and work is required.  At this stage you realize that performing a new skill takes a lot of effort, it doesn't come naturally to you and you've probably failed the first few times you tried it.  This is when fear, procrastination, excuses and negative self-talk emerges, giving you all the reasons why you should quit.  But if you decide to persevere just as you did when you were learning to walk, drive or read you will be compensated with the achievement of your goal and the acquisition of pride along with the self-confidence to take on future endeavours.

With Conscious Competence things get easier, you are aware that you can perform this new skill well, but you still take the time to prepare and practice before performing it.

The Unconscious Competence stage is when your new skill is mastered.  You no longer need conscious practice or conscious thought to perform it.  Everyone can achieve this stage of mastery, it will take effort and perseverance but it is not limited to those who deserve it more - you all deserve it.

Great practise in this area might be to be aware of what learning stage you are in, acknowledge that it is a normal part of the learning process, keep trying and keep practising.  Persevere in what you desire, be it to make more sales, get more clients, think positively or eat healthier.

Don't be afraid to learn something new, to take on a new project, to aim for success, for a better life, and for a better you.  It will be hard, at some point you may even fail, but failure is not permanent, it is an opportunity to learn and do better.  You've failed many times, you failed the first time you tried walking, you failed the first time you tried reading, you failed the first time you interviewed for a job but in the end, by learning from your failures and by not letting your negative self-talk, excuses or fear stand in your way you persevered and mastered each one of those skills.

Enjoy every step you take since there is no final destination but only a new journey to be started.
