Have your seen the rollicking, foolish, musical movie of the season, “Momma Mia”? I recently watched it on a plane flight home. It’s a silly movie in many respects, but as soon as you translate the story about love and objections into ‘Universal Metaphor Language’ you will find some great pieces. My favourite is a song, “Take a Chance on Me!”This is a line that Rumi would have happily used.

In it, an older spinster confronts an aging, lonely bachelor about the possibility of raising the standards of life much higher, beyond loneliness habits, and striking out past all fear into the territory of real love! The song will sing in your brain for weeks and rightfully so, because our deeper knowing system really understands this clear metaphor well.

Methinks this song cuts far too close to the truth for those of us (all of us) facing the current financial crisis (or any other crises of faith). All of us need to hear the inner challenge to keep raising our eyes to the call of love. How many coaching newsletters from how many coaching schools have fluttered electronically past my eyes in the last month with the aim of counselling and consoling the fearful?

Meanwhile the real call, mother earth’s call and humanity’s call is a wake-up call! “Take a Chance on Me!” What comfort zones are we willing to move past in the name of real love? What gifts and legacies are we willing to give for our children and their future? “Take a Chance on Me” calls the song! What does Love want from you now, at this point in life?

What boldness now, as the planet creaks with seven billion of us? What vision, now, while so many quake in their boots about job challenges and the lowering of the income level?

And so my friends I invite you and challenge you to really take a real chance this year: A chance to let your vision free! What do you want to do with this one wild and wonderful life? Move beyond fear of dreaming! A chance to let your heart free! What small sacrifices in comfort could allow you to expand your range of inner freedom and truth?

A chance to let your voice free! What skills as a coach do you sit on for fear of upsetting people? Move beyond fear of conflict! Old mother earth offers her best. Life dazzles us with amazing opportunities. What purpose truly lights up your inner vision?

Let 2009 be the year that you move fearlessly towards the call of your inner life. In Rumi’s words: “Even if you have broken your inner vow once or a thousand times, come yet again come!

World Conference

of Erickson Coaching Leaders

Would you be interested in attending a World Conference of Erickson Coaching leaders and participants, all attending a Trainers Training in Transformation in a fabulous resort hotel on the Antalya beaches of Turkey this April and May?

We are expecting large crowd (one hundred Erickson people or more are expected, perhaps as many as 120). Eighty have enrolled at this point from six different language groups. Yippee!!!

This means that the Antalya trainers training will be a large Erickson conference. We will be in a wonderful setting and some great excursions are being planned to Roman and Greek ruins, as well as river and mountain climbing events.

Our hotel is large and offers multiple kinds of services as well as ‘Restaurants’ at no extra price beyond the basic room charge (food and drink inclusive) which is “priced for the financial crisis”, and very reasonable per day.

Turkey (Antalya coast) is very pleasant this time of year.We will be together for eight days and so it is important that people can do presentation exercises outside in small groups or work in quiet places in small practice teams with an experienced trainer and this means that people will work both inside and out on the grounds.

We will have smaller break-out rooms for the different language groups to practice in.... English, Turkish, perhaps Czech. We will have a group of Advanced Assistants for the different language groupsand we will work within small ‘home teams’ of about ten. Teams will meet every day with a Trainer from the Art and Science of Coaching program, so that they can have discussion and feedback that is rich and useful.

We will also do the same for Excursions and Presentations on trek, so that many people can do their presentations at key places in the Roman Ruins we visit all together. It is important that people experience that they are backed by a strong support group.

The large numbers mean many wonderful things... good parties, etc. We plan careful organization for real rest and learning at its best.

We plan to have some Erickson Forums on different key topics every evening, led by different coach trainers. Please send in your own conference topics if you would like to make a presentation. This will be a large conference and an opportunity for multipletypes of Coaching presentations and demonstrations of different coaching and NLP applications.

Important subgroups will be Business Coaches, Art and Drama coaches, Life Coaches, NLP coaches. Do you have an area where you would like to present?

Our aim is to create real bonds between people of different cultures. Yoga, dance classes or body oriented training will be held in the mornings...possibly other times.

Are you a person who might bring a specialization of this type? Our yoga trainer from the 2006 conference was a great early morning addition, with his class and it added to the daily enrichment of all who attended. Are you a person with a specialty in some body movement practice perhaps? Any dance trainers? Voice trainers? Who would like to attend with special agreement?

My main question to you all is: What do we want to leave with? What is the opportunity here? The quality of everyone’s experience makes a real difference here.

What will be the best result of such a large Erickson gathering and can we plan for long term best results based on this for all involved? How can we make this event into a lifetime Win? Vision it please!!

Do You Ever "Really" Decide On What You Are to Create?

This is an interesting question isn’t it? Is it your job to create or is this the job of something even greater than you?

May I be honest? Well, the truth is, for most of my life I have lived with a focus on results. For me achievement was serious business. I would decide what I want to create and then I'd go out create it.

Meaning, I would create a “conscious intention” to do something, then create a detailed plan and put forward tremendous persistent to create it. Sometimes it worked, other times it did not, but I always tried hard and did my best with the information I had to make it happen.

Can you related to this process? First, decide what you want, devise a plan and then take action to get there. It all starts with having a big goal in mind, right?

Almost every Law of Attraction or Self Improvement program says you must consciously choose what you want to create, create a detailed picture of it, align your feelings with your intention, and then go and create it.

But what about J.K. Rowlings? She had no goal to be one of the weathiest women on the planet. There was no conscious intention, no planning, etc. She just wanted to be able write. She entered into a creatively ecstatic experience and through this expression, the book created a life of its own.

And even what about Dr. Marilyn Atkinson? She just wanted to share NLP with the world and Erickson has turned into an International phenomenon. She did not intend to create a movement, she just kept following her guidance system to continue.

Have you watched the movie “Field of Dreams” lately? Even if you have watched this movie before or even a few times, will you watch it again as soon as possible? In fact, go get it right now!

One of the things I love about the movie is there was NO WAY that the character Ray (played by Kevin Costner) could have sat down at the beginning of the year to create a vision of his true mission “in advance”. Obviously creating a baseball field in a corn field for ghost baseball players was just too crazy to dream up ahead of time. It took listening, being fully present to the messages (as wacky as they were) and acting anyway.

In a lot of ways, this is how I feel about my experiences of 2008. I had clear intentions and a powerful theme for the year to guide me (many I achieved), and it took presence and “paying attention and listening” to redirect according to my inner guidance. Now, at the beginning of 2009 (although I lived my theme of 2008 fully) my life looks quite different than what I laid out at the beginning of 2008. If I did not know better, I would think my life was dramatically off track in 2008. Any on looker would likely say the same thing, but the exact opposite is true.

Once you experience the movie all the way through and see the ending, will you be playful and consider that in every moment of your life you are being guided just like Ray was in the movie? (Yes, I do love the fact his name was Ray/Rae in the movie… smiles.)

Consider that no matter how illogical or bizarre it may seem, or how much resistance may come up for you, or how much you might ignore it…you are being guided!

Consider that your guidance (based in your presence and deep listening) is much more important than any detailed outcome you could create at the beginning of this year.

If you would like to do some important processing around this, I created a rich, robust 3 Part New Year Process to put myself through in 2009. I loved the process and decided to share it with others.

Many people have already done it. Here is a comment from one listener after only Part 1 of 3:
