Dear ,
Happy Thanksgiving! Even though these are tough times for a lot of people, there is always something to be grateful for, a topic I discuss in my feature article, A Time to Give Thanks.
In this issue, I also introduce you to HSP business owners, Christi Calvano and Greg Campisi, two people who pooled their diverse talents to build a thriving and socially conscious online business. While many people attempt entrepreneurship, one of the most common mistakes is trying to do it all alone. Often times, you can greatly increase your chance of success by partnering with others, as demonstrated by this story.
With the holidays just around the corner, I encourage you to keep our products in mind as you do your shopping for the season. It's your support that enables us to keep things running smoothly at The Highly Sensitive Person Publishing Company.
Lastly, if you haven't already done so, you may want to listen to my 10/22 interview, "Are You a Highly Sensitive Person?", on BlogTalkRadio. I've received lots of positive feedback on the show so I hope you get a chance to check it out.

A Time to Give Thanks Being grateful even when times are tough.
The holidays are coming, and I'm getting a little nostalgic, but not necessarily in a good way. I tend to be sad this time of year. Another year is passing, so much to do for upcoming holiday preparations, and dwelling on unpleasant things that have happened throughout the year.
This year has been especially difficult for me and my family. My wife and I have been having health challenges, our beloved dog, Teddy, passed away suddenly, and like many of you, we are feeling the financial pinch of the current economy.
I tell you these personal revelations not to elicit sympathy, but to illustrate a point. Since highly sensitive people experience life on a deep level, it can be very tempting to get drawn into sad or negative feelings. Given our deep-thinking capabilities, it's easy to let these unpleasant aspects cloud the reality of how good things can be. Despite my tendency towards the holiday blues, I have come to the realization that a negative mindset doesn't serve me. It only causes bad health and low self-esteem, which certainly aren't the ingredients of a happy and purposeful life. While I'm not suggesting that we minimize or ignore life's difficulties, it's important to put these events into their proper perspective. If instead we can focus on the blessings in our lives, we create opportunities for positive things to flow into our experience.
As an example, I remember a time when I got very discouraged over the progress on my book, Making Sense of Your High Sensitivity. In particular, I was frustrated over not being able to find the right person to do the book layout. I had tried several people, and none of them worked out.
Around that time, I watched the movie, The Secret, which powerfully transformed my way of thinking. I went from frustration and pessimism to enthusiasm and optimism. I pictured working with the perfect graphic designer, saw the completed book in my mind, and wrote down all of the things I was grateful for everyday.
Then one day, after reviewing portfolios on the web, I decided to contact a designer over in Italy. While I hadn't really considered working with someone so far away, I gave it a shot anyway. I was delighted when she responded immediately and seemed enthusiastic about the project. Over the next several months, I worked with this woman, whom I never met nor even spoke to on the phone, and she was able to help me produce a book that I was thrilled with. Once I was able to shift my mindset, it seemed as if the "universe" was determined to cooperate with me.
This experience was a powerful life lesson for me. It was proof positive that our perspective on life really does determine our reality. As I practiced gratitude and visualized my dream, I was blessed with optimism and given the necessary energy to face my challenges.
I know it can be hard to feel grateful during hard times. If you're having trouble shifting your mindset, one technique that has helped me is journaling. Since this is just for your own purposes, your writing doesn't have to be perfect or in any fancy format. Often times just the act of committing your concerns to paper can be very healing and cleansing. Be sure to include your positive thoughts as well, especially things you are grateful for. Eventually, you will see that even the bad times serve a purpose. Not
only do they build character, but they also make it possible for you to
appreciate the good times.
Since I know first-hand the many benefits of gratitude, I'm looking at this holiday season as a time to be truly thankful. I have many reasons to be grateful - a loving family, friends I can count on, the amazing progress I am making on my HSP writing career, and the support of all of you. I hope you take the time to count your blessings too. (For gratitude tips, check out Cultivate Gratitude in the sidebar.) Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The Power of Two: Christi Calvano and Greg Campisi
From the time she was a small child, Christi Calvano always knew she was connected to a higher source. Desiring to share in a more peaceful, loving, and joy-filled world, she used her natural gift for channeling Spirit and conversing with angelic realms, to ask what she could do. She was nudged to provide tools to assist others in awakening the "sleeping giant" within us all. Christi started teaching guided meditation classes and workshops with her Mom. Soon after, she began receiving inspiration for products and messages to share. However she wasn't sure how to bring these gifts to the masses.
Enter Greg Campisi. Greg always believed that the world he saw wasn't the world God intended. He knew a change was needed but wasn't sure where to start...until he met Christi. It was then his true calling to find a deeper connection to the divine and a more peaceful way of living began to blossom.
His talents and professional skills for product design, website creation, and marketing made for the perfect combination - his gifts, her gifts, and their combined passion to live in a more harmonious world. It was then that something was created...an online business called Something for Your Spirit.
On their site, Christi and Greg offer inspirational gifts, organic clothing, guided meditation CDs, artwork, photography, and more. They take an environmentally friendly approach to their business and are proud to offer only eco-friendly products. The pair also produces a monthly newsletter, i am, which includes divine messages from Christi, an Ask Spirit column by Marilyn Calvano (Christi's Mom), and inspirational writings from Greg.
"Our intention is to awaken hearts to the greater truth that our spirits already know," states Christi, "that we are loving, peaceful, divine beings. Anything else is an illusion."
Thus far, Christi has produced 2 guided meditation CDs. The first one, Awaken Your Divine Spark, relaxes the mind and encourages listeners to develop a relationship with their angels and guides. Her second CD, Sacred Healing Journeys, offers tools to transform self-doubts, limited beliefs, and negative views into loving, empowering ways of being. Christi also leads guided meditation classes, presents seminars, and delivers messages from Spirit.
Greg is the talent behind the art and photography on the site. After a spiritual awakening in 2007, he had a strong desire to revisit his childhood love of painting and drawing. That call was answered by a friend who asked him to paint the nursery for their new baby. After completing the project, he followed this new spark of creativity, which morphed into a passion to produce inspirational art, photography, and writing.
Both Christi and Greg view this venture as a labor of love. They feel honored and blessed to co-create with each other and with Spirit to produce products that positively impact the way people live.
