Dear ,
HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! This is our 12th newsletter! I want to thank everyone for their support. This anniversary (and all of the work I've done leading up to it) is to celebrate the uniqueness and strength of being a highly sensitive person.
It's also about connecting HSPs to each other, which is why I started the Highly Sensitive Person Friendship Circle. I encourage you to join this group regardless of where you live. I plan on utilizing the latest technology to connect more of us together.
The more you know and understand yourself, the better and more fulfilling your life will be. A balanced life includes a healthy self-esteem, utilization of your natural gifts and talents, nurturing relationships, and a sense of purpose.
As highly sensitive people, most of us have a deep need to discover our purpose in life, and this might take different forms at various stages of our lives. For example, your "purpose" might include being a good parent, working at a job, running a business that you're passionate about, having a hobby, or doing volunteer work. Most likely, you will have a combination of these.
I'm in the process of living my most fulfilling life. I feel that I understand myself better than I ever have before, which greatly increases my self-esteem. I'm utilizing my natural gift of writing. I have many positive relationships and a strong support network. My "purpose" is inspiring and educating other HSPs to understand themselves better and to encourage them to be proud of who they are. It is my hope that you can join me on this path to fulfillment. Here's to many more anniversaries together! |
How Well Do You Take Care of Yourself?
I know that this question might seem a little strange to HSPs, since our first inclination is to take care of others. We often place the needs of others above what we need.
Do you take the time to think about what you need? This is not being selfish. After all, you can't give to others when your energy is depleted, either physically, emotionally, or both.
What would it take to "lighten your load"? Does your body get as much sleep as it needs? Are you saying "yes" to things that you want to say "no" to? What kinds of things would help you recharge your emotional and physical batteries? Do you skip these activities because of other priorities?
On that note, I'm pleased to introduce several new "self-care" products on my web site. These are products that I have hand selected for their specific benefits to highly sensitive people, and I have personally benefited from each and every one of them.
The first product line is a set of music CDs that have specifically-arranged classical music designed to support and nurture the nervous system. As highly sensitive people, we often have overworked nervous systems, which cause us to feel overwhelmed, overstimulated, and fatigued. If I did not have this music to comfort and encourage me, I would never have been able to finish writing my book, Making Sense of Your High Sensitivity.
The other product line is a set of aromatherapy inhalers, made of 100% natural, therapeutic grade, botanical essential oils. These inhalers provide relief for stress, headaches, and improve mental clarity. Whenever I am feeling drained or overwhelmed, I reach for one of these mini inhalers and simply take a deep breath.
Since these products have worked wonders for me, I am honored to share them with you. It is my sincere hope that you give them a try and that you get as much from them as I have. |
At its simplest, food is fuel. Most people are aware that it is vital we consume a diverse assortment of foods if we aspire to maintain a state of physical well-being. The connection between diet and our mental well-being is less understood. Just as the nutritional components in food power the body, so too do they power the mind. Some foods can impair cognitive functioning and sap our energy, while others heighten our intellectual prowess and make us feel vigorous. What we eat and drink can have a powerful effect on our ability to focus, mental clarity, mood, and stress levels.
Food allergies, which don't always manifest themselves in forms we recognize, can also play a significant role in the maintenance of mental health. Thus, for most of us, even a simple change in diet can have a profoundly positive impact on our lives. Taking the time to explore whether anxiety, muddled thoughts, or inexplicable tension can be linked to a food allergy or food sensitivity can empower you to treat your symptoms naturally.
The benefits of a healthier, more personalized diet are often felt immediately. Sugar, saturated fats, wheat, and dairy products are frequently allergens and can stress the body. For people that are allergic, consuming them can cause imbalances in the physical self that have a negative effect on the body's ability to nourish the brain. Water, fiber, nuts, unprocessed seeds, raw fruits and vegetables, and vegetable proteins, on the other hand, support physical and mental functioning by providing those nutrients we do need.
A balanced, natural diet can ease mood swings, panic attacks, anxiety, and mild depression. Intellectual clarity and agility is improved when the mind receives proper nourishment.
