| FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY |
Five-year-old GEOINT
organization promotes tradecraft and builds community.
The U.S. Geospatial Intelligence
Foundation (USGIF) recently celebrated marks its fifth anniversary as a
not-for-profit educational organization committed to promoting the geospatial
intelligence tradecraft and building a stronger GEOINT community.
The foundation's mission is
to bring together government, industry, academia, professional organizations
and individuals for the advancement of the geospatial intelligence tradecraft
as it relates to national security.
USGIF has helped to
advance the tradecraft through its many events and programs, such as the highly
acclaimed GEOINT Symposium and technology focused Tech Days. The foundation
currently has 156 sustaining member organizations supporting and assisting in
executing its objectives. The foundation also has made education a top
priority, exemplified by its scholarships, college and university accreditation
programs, grants to underprivileged K-12 schools and other initiatives.
"The remarkable
partnership that makes up the foundation has accomplished so much in its first
five years, and I'm absolutely thrilled with the opportunities that I see for
us in the coming five years and beyond. I especially look forward to increasing
the foundation's educational outreach, and we are all excited about the future as we continue to foster the
community and further establish GEOINT as the foundation for all intelligence
disciplines," said USGIF President Keith J. Masback.

SPATIAL INFRASTRUCTURE
|
Upcoming ESRI conference
will include session of Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure.
The Defense Installation
Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) will be one of the items on the agenda as
federal users of ESRI applications meet in Washington, D.C.,
February 18-20.
Dave LaBranche, the new program manager of DISDI, will
lead the discussion at an ESRI Federal User Conference workshop on the program,
which develops standards and policy to enable the sharing and interoperability
of high-quality geospatial data at all levels of defense installation
management. DISDI-comprising people, policies and practices-ensures that the
Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and
Environment's geospatial information infrastructure is aligned with DoD's
net-centric data sharing strategies and business transformation goals.
The DISDI program team will provide an overview of the
strategic direction for the coming year with a focus on standards, data
sharing, and common goals for the defense installations and environment
community. In addition, the team will provide a presentation on the future of
Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE),
the single DoD standard that supports common implementation for installations,
environment and civil works missions.

URBAN 3D
|
Latest version of geospatial
analysis software for cities offers added benefits to those concerned with
civilian security, planning and mitigation.
Overwatch
Geospatial Systems, an operating unit of Textron Systems, has released Urban
Analyst, version 4.3, the latest advancement in 3D geospatial analysis software
operating within ESRI's market-leading ArcGIS framework.
Urban
Analyst 4.3 provides a host of innovative features and capabilities supporting
3D analysis in an affordable package. The new release facilitates improved
analyst workflow and efficiency through a multi-user collaboration capability,
new multi-media applications, and improved data format support. These features
provide significant advancements for Department of Defense and Department of
Homeland Security analysts, or any analyst concerned with civilian security,
planning and mitigation.
Urban
Analyst provides the ability to visualize and evaluate mission environments as
they truly exist, in three dimensions. This allows analysts to provide greater
visualization and situational awareness in DoD and civilian operations, such as
vulnerabilities, line-of-sight capabilities, distances between assets, building
heights, corridors between way points, and terrain evaluations. The 3D content
of the system can then be published to enterprise databases or a variety of
media such as maps, reports, models, images and video.
