President's Message
2009-2010 AIS President
The International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) was held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA from December 15 to 18, 2009. There were more than 1,200 participants at this conference, including most of the AIS Council members. The quality of papers presented at the conference continues to be excellent. Colleagues whom I have interacted with at the conference made many positive comments about their experience at the conference. I congratulate conference co-chairs Jay Nunamaker and Wendy Currie for organizing this excellent conference. ICIS 2010 will be held in St Louis, Missouri, USA. I encourage colleagues to attend this conference because, like many past ICIS, it will be another excellent conference and another great opportunity for networking.

Being Creative in Your Job Search
by Cynetta Freeman Undergraduate Career Councelor Robinson Colllege of Business Georgia State University
It's the beginning of a new year and a new semester at colleges and universities nationwide. Students graduating in the next few months will be in the job market along with those who graduates in 2009 and those who were laid off.
The good news is that the national unemployment rate is slowly decreasing and the hiring for college recruits is increasing. The national unemployment rate was 10.2% in October 2009 and down to 10.0% in November and December 2009.

The Addis Ababa University PhD in IS Project
Over recent decades there has been a large movement of Africa's most educated people to more developed economies. Furthermore, African countries that send their talented young scholars to Europe and North American for PhDs find that the great majority do not return. The Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia has designed a PhD program in IS, and other academic areas, that can be completed locally with the help of foreign scholars. International faculty travel to Ethiopia in lieu of sending PhD students abroad. The premise is that students who are educated in Ethiopia are much more likely to remain living and working in Ethiopia.

Maximize Your Membership
by Jason Thatcher
AIS Vice President of Membership
When you joined the Association for Information Systems (AIS) you affiliated yourself with Information System educators, professionals and students with whom you share a common purpose: "To advance knowledge in the use of information technology and to improve organizational performance and individual quality of work life."
The benefits you receive and the programs to which you have access as an AIS member flow from that common purpose.
