President's Message
AMCIS 2009
by Bernard Tan,
2009-2010 AIS President
The Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) was held in San Francisco, USA from August 6 to 9, 2009. More than 1,200 participants attended this conference (the largest attendance for AMCIS to-date). Many Council members were present at AMCIS 2009, including Immediate Past President David Avison, President-Elect Joey George, and myself. The quality of papers presented at AMCIS continues to improve from year to year. I talked to many colleagues at the conference and their comments about the conference were very positive. I congratulate conference co-chairs Robert Nickerson and Ramesh Sharda, and honorary conference chair Paul Gray, for organizing this excellent conference. AMCIS 2010 will be held in Lima, Peru (the first time AMCIS will be held in South America). Having such an event in South America can raise the level of awareness for information systems research and education in the entire continent. Therefore, I encourage colleagues to attend AMCIS 2010 to show our support to the conference committee.

The AIS eLibrary
Guy Fitzgerald, VP Publications
As I hope you have been aware one of the major platforms of AIS strategy over the last two years has been the replacement of the old eLibrary with a much more stable and secure platform to enable AIS to move forward and provide a much improved service to members. I am pleased to say that the new eLibrary became operational earlier in the year and has now overcome some initial teething problems to become a service of which we are very proud. As will be familiar to the information systems community the move to the new eLibrary revealed some significant data problems which had been hidden in the old system, and that took some time to identify and resolve. Further there has been a recent minor facelift, so if you haven't already done so please check out the new AIS eLibrary at http://aisel.aisnet.org/.

Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS)
Ilze Zigurs, Editor-in-Chief
Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS) is one of two founding journals of the Association for Information Systems. We began publishing in 1999 and publish two volumes per year. Papers are published continuously, online only, as they are accepted, at http://aisel.aisnet.org/cais/. CAIS fulfills the role usually associated with the term "communications" - to foster the free flow of ideas within the global information systems community by being a high-quality, broad, responsive, creative, and visible outlet. We publish articles, panel reports, teaching cases, tutorials on the state of the art in leading-edge areas, columns, opinions - in short, a wide variety of materials of interest to the entire IS community.

AIS Student Chapter Initiative, A Student's Perspective
Chris Sanders, Tom Steigerwald, & Wes Turner
AIS Student Chapter Representatives
Demand for career-driven Information Systems professionals is growing faster than supply. According to the May 25, 2009 Time Magazine article, "Over the next seven years, the number of jobs in the information technology sector is expected to swell 24% -- a figure more than twice the overall job-growth rate." For those in information technology, this is great news. However, student enrollment in IT programs is falling as demand for IT continues to climb. President of AIS, Dr. Bernard Tan has made student and professional outreach a major goal this year to address this growing problem.
Pete Tinsley, Executive Director of AIS, and Tmitri Owens, Project Manager, along with a team from Temple University led by Munir Mandviwalla, Department Chair, have been working with different universities to reach out to students and encourage student enrollment growth. One of the best ways to reach out to students is through local MIS chapters. Last April, Temple University hosted a Student and Faculty AIS conference in Philadelphia to explore the potential in uniting local MIS chapters and create new student chapters at other universities.
