AIS Announces:
AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction (AIS THCI)

We are delighted to unveil the first issue of the AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction (AIS THCI), published by AIS SIGHCI and funded by AIS. The credit for launching AIS Transactions series should go to the leadership of AIS SIGHCI who proposed that AIS begin publishing Transactions journals such as those by ACM and IEEE. The co-editors (Dennis Galletta and Ping Zhang) started preparing their proposal for THCI in late 2007 and gained approval through a Council vote in June 2008.

Spring into Leadership and Volunteer Opportunities with AIS

As we approach the end of the AIS administrative year, so too do we look to the beginning of the 'new' year.  During this period of transition we will have members stepping down from positions on various committees and task groups.  So this is an excellent opportunity to remind all members about the benefit of volunteering and what positions will be available.  Trust me, the need for volunteers is always present in an organization like AIS, so we encourage all members to consider it.  The association depends heavily on this involvement.

AIS Student Chapter Planning Conference

The Next Step

Although a strong spring storm threatened to delay its start, the working conference brought together 41 faculty and 21 student leaders representing 37 universities in 8 different companies.  The focus of the conference was to assess the feasibility of founding an AIS branded student chapter structure. Over the course of the two-day seminar, attendees participated in a series of breakout sessions, panel discussions, and facilitated table discussions targeted to craft the mission and goals and governance structure of AIS student chapters.
