Meet the Editors

Kalle Lyytinen, Editor of JAIS announces the publication of a special issue on "Collaboration Engineering" edited by Robert O. Briggs, Ann Massey and Gert-Jan de Vreede.

AIS Announces:
AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction (AIS THCI)

We are delighted to welcome the first issue of the AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction (AIS THCI), sponsored by AIS SIGHCI. The credit for launching AIS Transactions series should go to the leadership of AIS SIGHCI who proposed that AIS begin publishing Transactions journals such as those by ACM and IEEE. The co-editors (Dennis Galletta and Ping Zhang) started preparing their proposal for THCI in late 2007 and gained approval through a Council vote in June 2008.

FEATURED SIG:  SIG-Health

SIGHealth is hosting a pre-AMCIS workshop on August 6, 2009 in San Francisco!
Frequent questions from our members include where can we go to get feedback on work in progress, learn more about grants, and learn how to write for a health informatics journal. Join funders, researchers, editors, and leaders in health information systems to obtain some answers and insight.

Ilze Zigurs, CAIS Editor-in-ChiefMeet the new CAIS Editor

Ilze Zigurs, University of Nebraska
CAIS Editor-in-Chief

I am happy to have this opportunity to say a few words to the AIS community from the vantage point of my new role as Editor-in-Chief of the Communications of the Association for Information Systems. First, let us all thank Joey George for his leadership as EIC these last three years - he has seen the journal through significant change and growth, and his contribution has enriched our community. Joey reflected on his three years as EIC in his December 2008 editorial (Vol. 23, Article 36). I hope you will read that editorial - it provides a great picture of how the journal has changed while remaining true to its vision, which started with founding EIC Paul Gray: "to foster the free flow of ideas within the IS community, emphasizing originality, importance, and cogency of ideas." It is both humbling and exciting to contribute to the on-going life of this significant community resource.

Diversity through Regional Chapter Growth!

To embrace this diversity, we, as Region 2 representatives, strongly encourage the ongoing trend to set up local AIS chapters. As we see it, this expansion fosters the growth and diversity of our discipline. It also helps nurturing a sense of community among IS scholars and practitioners throughout the globe. Liechtenstein is a good example of how to set up a chapter quickly and enable our community to attract a group of excellent scientists (for instance, 6 papers by Liechtenstein scholars were accepted for ECIS 2009). Tunisia could be the next chapter and we are working on that.

The Quarterly Council Meeting

As you may know, we now have a Council meeting every three months. In early March we had another virtual meeting joining together colleagues in all three regions. The ecological and cost advantages made up for the inconvenient times for some. We discussed many issues including ways to improve our financial position, forthcoming conferences, the forthcoming AIS elections, further expansion of our e-library and publications, and so much more.

ICIS '08 Paris...highly rated by attendees

Following the conclusion of each of our official conferences, we routinely survey attendees to gauge their satisfaction and gather their input for making improvements for future meetings.  I'm pleased to report that the Paris ICIS scored a 94% for overall satisfaction from attendees.  On behalf of the AIS Council and staff we extend our thanks and appreciation to conference co-chairs Frantz Rowe, University of Nantes and Dov   Te'eni, Tel-Aviv University and their entire committee for a job well done.
