Transparency Corner
by David Avison
How are your dues spent?
In this issue we discuss where your membership dues go, that is, what is your US$125 spent on. In fact we have two main sources of income: ICIS and AMCIS (approximately 50% and 27% of total income respectively) as well as your membership dues (19%). Therefore, the profit from these three activities is used to underwrite other activities and services for members.

AIS Student Chapter Planning Conference
The Next Step
Student chapters serve to introduce new students into the profession, enhance education by providing forums to discuss relevant issues, provide a way to identify with the profession, and engage in professional activities. Chapters promote communication among students, faculty, and industry leaders and ultimately develop leaders for tomorrow.
The conference in Philadelphia will bring together faculty and student leaders to discuss and be part of founding the AIS branded student chapter structure. The conference is intended for faculty advisors and other faculty leaders at universities with existing student organizations as well as student leaders. It is also appropriate for faculty and department chairs who are interested in forming an AIS branded student chapter structure.

VP Perspectives: by Sue Conger, VP of SIGs & Chapters
The heart and soul of AIS!
The SIGs and chapters are the heart and soul of the AIS and, as such, deserve more attention than they have been receiving. We are excited about the work of each SIG and chapter and appreciate the opportunity to welcome your members, thank them for participating, and encourage them to grow your organizations. See the story of the Italian Chapter as the January, 2009 Chapter of the Quarter. Read more... |
President's Message
ICIS 2008: A Great Success!!!
Our largest attendance at ICIS ever, anywhere, was held in Paris, France, last month. What a fantastic success! We had around 1,400 participants representing 64 countries. Again, colleagues from far more countries were represented than ever before. It was wonderful to see so many new faces at ICIS. This meant so many new people introduced to our community. We had, of course, many more Europeans than attend ICIS normally. But it is also a tribute to those in North and South America, Australia, Asia and Africa and elsewhere who also attended in great numbers. The AIS is truly an international organization.

Executive Director's Message
Mid-Year Progress Report
Happy New Year! The start of a new calendar seems like an obvious time to talk about new beginnings. I'm sure some of you have a New Year's resolution or two! Good luck with that. For the association though, with our administrative/fiscal year starting July 1st, January is really the start of the second half of our year. So instead of talking about new things to start, we will report on the progress we are making on those initiatives that were started earlier in the year.
