From Our President

October 1, 2011

Greetings HRMA Members,

October is a Busy Month for HRMA's Membership

Each year, the Human Resource Management Association (HRMA) of New Mexico (NM) celebrates Diversity in October. This month is an active month for HRMA members filled with many diverse opportunities to earn HR Certification Institute (HRCI) credit, network with your fellow HR peers, give back to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Foundation, and learn more about the various opportunities to gain access to information that will help you enhance your knowledge, skills, and abilities in the workplace as HR professionals.

Earn additional HRCI approved credit towards your nationally recognized certification at the upcoming seminar "Strategic Communication with Stakeholders: Tools for Thriving in a Chaotic World." Join us in celebrating October as Diversity Month and hear more about Disc Behavioral Styles at the upcoming HRMA membership luncheon. Connect with your fellow HR peers and give back at the Annual SHRM Foundation Fundraiser. Last but not least, you have a chance to win attendance at the upcoming 2012 SHRM New Mexico Conference. Looking forward to seeing you a lot during the month of October!

Strategic Communication with Stakeholders: Tools for Thriving in a Chaotic World

HRMA is once again partnering with the Soaring Eagle Institute to provide a professional development opportunity.   Friday, October 7, 2011, from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. is your opportunity to earn 6.5 approved HRCI credit. Join us for the "Strategic Communication with Stakeholders: Tools for Thriving in a Chaotic World" seminar at the University of Phoenix.

Today's complex world and economy challenge us to collaborate and communicate in new ways with a wide variety of stakeholders in order to thrive.  Gain a toolkit of methods to help increase your effectiveness as a leader, a business owner, an HR professional, or a team member.  These insights and tools will help you strengthen stakeholder relationships - with customers, employees, co-workers, and vendors - all the key people your business needs to succeed.

Disc Behavioral Styles

Cecillia Chavez, Founder Competitive Edge Consulting Inc., will introduce the "Disc Behavioral Styles."

We as humans have been studied for years and we basically fall into four groups when it comes to behavioral styles. You will learn which group you have more affinity with and also learn about the other three. This presentation will help you understand what motivates and drives your behavior and the behavior of those you are in contact with on a daily basis.

Connecting with someone in a way that produces positive outcomes for both of you is essential to being successful in your personal and professional life. Having a keen awareness of how you come across and how to interpret others is critical today for success.

You will learn how to improve your communication skills by understanding your DISC style, how it affects you, and discover how to adapt your communication techniques to the DISC styles of others. Join us at the upcoming HRMA luncheon on October 20, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at the Embassy Suites by registering today at www.hrmanm.org.

Annual SHRM Foundation Event

HRMA is hosting an Annual SHRM Foundation Event on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Albuquerque Hotel and Spa. SHRM Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit affiliate of SHRM. A leading funder of HR research grants, the Foundation produces publications and educational resources to advance the HR profession. You will have an opportunity to contribute to SHRM Foundation's success via a silent auction to benefit the foundation. Winners of the auction will be announced that same evening.

Sara Zink will be our featured presenter at this event speaking about "He Said/She Said: Gender Differences in Communication." HR Certification Institute credit is pending. Several exhibitors and sponsors will join us this evening. A special thank you goes out to Jackson Lewis; Moody and Warner, P.C.; ADP, and Lewis University for your generous contribution and support towards this fundraiser.
