From our President

Spring is in the air - love the sunshine, although not such a fan of the wind - I hope you are finding time to enjoy the changing weather.

I had the pleasure of volunteering for the 2010 SHRM Southwest Central Regional Student Conference and HR Games in March and it was FABULOUS!!  What an amazing group of future HR Professionals!  There were 6 states represented with 14 schools that participated in the HR Games, and students from nearly 20 schools in attendance for the conference.

Lobo Louie, Lobo Lucy, and the University of New Mexico hosted over 150 student members and volunteers during the fun packed 1-1/2 days of educational sessions and spirited competition.  With festive clusters of school colored balloons floating overhead, Douglas M. Brown, Dean of University of New Mexico's Anderson School of Management, kicked off the event with insightful opening remarks.  Brett Farmolie and Zach Hubbell, keynote speakers, inspired students and volunteers alike as they shared the story of their cross-country venture to Pursue the Passion.  Their creative and humorous stories captured in their book make people think differently about career paths, and inspire people to truly pursue their passion.   We were able to raise $276 in raffle contributions for the SHRM Foundation.

Congratulations and thank you to Denise Montoya and her committee for delivering a truly wonderful event.  Thanks to the many HRMA and SHRM New Mexico State Council members who volunteered their time to help make it happen.  The University of North Texas team graciously accepted the Collegiality Award.  Utah State University teams made an outstanding appearance, taking both the Champion and Runner-Up titles.  Sincere appreciation is also extended to the SHRM staff team of Anne-Margaret Olsson, Maureen Flaherty, Kristine Hofmann and Chuck Salvetti for their role in making this a wonderful experience for all in attendance!

Students and volunteers left the event full of inspiration and pride.  Their passion and excitement for Human Resources was energized and renewed!

I look forward to seeing all of you at the May General Meeting.  As I mentioned at the last meeting, we are still having issues with our registration system so I am asking everyone who registers to bring a copy of the registration confirmation to the meeting so we can expedite resolution to any problems.  If you don't receive a confirmation email after completing your online registration, please let us know right away so we can research and get you signed up prior to the meeting.  Thanks for your patience and support with this process.

Enjoy the spring weather, and if the wind keeps up, maybe I will give in and go fly a kite with my kids!

HRMA New Mexico Welcomes Disney Institute to Albuquerque on April 7, 2010!

It doesn't take any training to recognize that the world's economy has taken a significant downturn. It does take effective and proven professional development training to guide impacted organizations back to the summit.
A one-day local workshop, Disney's Approach to Business Excellence program is a rare and affordable opportunity to learn best business practices from Disney insiders, and discover ways to easily and immediately adapt and apply those best practices to pick up the pace in these slow economic times.

Organizations from across the nation and around the world have learned proven philosophies, adapted critical lessons, and implemented effective processes to reap the rewards of improvements in leadership, management, service, and brand loyalty.

Professional development doesn't cost-it pays.  It pays by creating a framework of focused energy in a vacuum of uncertainty.  It pays by helping an organization gain share in a slow economy.  It pays because it has been proven to strengthen employee morale and retention, which will be critical to emerge from tough times.

IMPORTANT: Please use HRMA New Mexico promotional code HRMMNE to receive $50 OFF PER GUEST when registering. Additional group discounts are available.
