Human Resources Association of NM Wins 2009 SHRM Pinnacle Award

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recognized HRMA of NM as one of nine 2009 SHRM Pinnacle Award winners, the highest honor given to HR organizations for innovative programs.

Created in 1991, the SHRM Pinnacle Award annually recognizes state councils and chapters for creating programs that solve local workforce challenges and surpass the standard activities of SHRM affiliates.

"The winning projects exemplify the kind of HR leadership that our chapters and state councils engage in on a daily basis," said SHRM President and CEO Laurence G. O'Neil. "These programs not only make a difference in our local communities, but also serve as HR examples for organizations around the country."

Each winning program received a $1,000 prize during the SHRM Leadership Conference held in Arlington, Virginia. The 2009 awards are sponsored by Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP).

From our President

Dear Valued HRMA Members:

It's now November, the month traditionally reserved for giving thanks. I know many of us have so much to be thankful for and HRMA is no exception.  Last week at the SHRM Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., our chapter received a 2009 SHRM Pinnacle Award! I am so very thankful for our terrific Board of Directors and all of our TeamWorks volunteers who made this achievement possible.

The SHRM Pinnacle Award Program, sponsored by ADP, is an annual recognition program that honors the highest achievement in program development as well as contributions to the advancement of effective human resource management.  SHRM and ADP presented awards to seven chapters and two state councils, chosen from 55 program entries. Each winning affiliate received a $1,000 grant and will be nationally recognized for outstanding achievement through SHRM publications such as SHRM Online.

HRMA was honored for our strategic alliance with TeamWorks, an organization that assists single-parent women and recipients of Temporary Aid to Needy Families. The TeamWorks program helps women overcome barriers that affect their ability to enter or return to the workforce. In 2008 HRMA developed interviewing skills and résumé writing training and a tool to conduct mock interviews, helping TeamWorks participants gain experience and confidence as they prepare to compete in today's job market. Since implementation, our HRMA members have contributed over 237 volunteer hours. In 2009, HRMA launched the joint initiative to place TeamWorks participants in a nonpaid internship working in professional organizations. This project and volunteer effort exemplifies the kind of HR leadership that our chapter members engage in on a daily basis.  This program not only makes a difference in our local community, but also serves as HR examples for organizations around the country. Thank you again to each and every HRMA member who generously volunteered their time at TeamWorks!

So please join us at our December 15th General Membership meeting when we'll recognize our TeamWorks volunteers and the other member volunteers who assisted us in 2009.  We'll also install the 2010 Board of Directors and celebrate our many accomplishments this past year.  Mark your calendar now for this special holiday event!

As always, we value your membership and look forward to serving you today, tomorrow and next year. If the HRMA Board or I can assist you in anyway, please don't hesitate to call on us.

Wishing you an enchanted holiday season,

Patty Longdon
