Federal Legislative Alert

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it has delayed by 60 days, until April 3, 2009, the effective date for using the revised Form I-9, originally scheduled to go into effect today.  Please note:  Employers who use the new form prior to the April 3, 2009 effective date are subject to civil monetary penalties.

HR Graduate Study Fellowship, New for 2009! 
At least one applicant will receive up to $10,000 annually for up to two years of graduate study in HR.  The award was established in honor of Susan R. Meisinger due to her historic contributions American Flagto the HR community and profession.

Message from Our President
Happy New Year HRMA members!
 
January is a special month; it signifies a fresh start and new
beginnings for many of us. January 2009 is especially exciting
as we anticipate the inauguration of a new President in
Washington D.C. and look forward to a change in our country's
leadership, a new first family and even a new "first dog"!
 
As we begin 2009, I am very excited about our HRMA Board;
a blend of returning Board members as well new ones. We added
two key roles to the Board this year: VP Certification and
VP Community Relations.   Members will find support and guidance
for those who are interested in becoming certified as well as
programs and assistance for our Certified professionals. Our new
VP of Community Relations will continue our strategic alliance with
Teamworks and help us become even more active in our
community!
 
The HRMA Board accomplished so many things in 2008 under
Kim Baird's leadership including increased membership, a new
website and member management system with advanced
technology to better serve you. In addition we have developed
a new professional, membership information package. We'll role
out the website and member packet this month as we embark
on another year, committed to serving you better at our meeting
location, Embassy Suites! 
 
The HRMA Board dedicated an entire day on Saturday,
January 10th to strategic planning for 2009.  It's going to be
a terrific year!  The HRMA Board is stronger and more committed
than ever to serving the HR profession and advancing the HR
professional.  We value your membership and continued support
and look forward to working with you in the months to come.
