July 2009

Greetings!

Baby AlexI am looking forward to the weekend. My family will celebrate the Fourth of July with four generations in attendance, from my uncle in his 80s to my grandson who is not yet three months old.

Are you expecting guests at your home? These inter-generational family events highlig
ht the need for safety and accessibility for all ages. If you haven't given this much thought yet, I'd encourage you to visit our website and the links to resources on aging in place.

Have a safe and pleasant 4th of July!

Tips for Bathroom Remodeling
Bathroom
We will design your bathroom for your needs.

If you are concerned about going over budget on a remodel, you can follow some of these tips to keep you on track.

  1. Cultured marble sheets are a good choice for tub surrounds, instead of ceramic tile. You will save considerably on labor costs and the marble sheets are much easier to clean.
  2. Fiberglass surrounds are also less costly than tile.
  3. Examine how you are using space. You may be able to steal some space from a neighboring room or closet. A pedestal lavatory can save space but may increase costs.
  4. Cultured marble lavatories can be a great budget choice since it is an integrated sink bowl and countertop sold in one easily installed unit.
  5. Consider one or two luxuries. One such indulgence is an electric warming system beneath your new stone or tile floor.

Two women Mobility is not a guarantee as we age: the ability to get around anywhere, and more specifically, in our own homes. We want our environment to be safe, convenient, and attractive.
Universal design gives us access to key areas in our homes and makes them safer. Things like handrails, easy-grip door handles, wider doors, grab bars, safety tubs and better lighting so we can see what we are doing.
AARP and the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) developed the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) program. CAPS professionals have been taught the strategies and techniques for designing and building barrier-free living environments.
