From the Director:

It's September so that means Nebraska City is getting ready for Apple Jack this weekend! There will be things happening throughout Nebraska City from caramel apples, craft shows, apple donuts, to live music concerts. If you are an apple lover, this weekend is for you. The leaves on the burning bushes are starting to turn and the weather is going to be great to just get out and enjoy the festivities. For the parade lovers at heart, this will be one of the largest parades in Southeast Nebraska. For a complete list of activities check out this link for the schedule of events.
Hope to see you this weekend!

Public Arts Project Planned
The Arbor City committee has continued to work on numerous projects to help enhance economic growth, tourism and quality of life in Nebraska City. The Arbor City Committee has identified a public arts project as their number one priority. The project consists of two divisions: one dedicated to school age artists and a second for adult artists. The school section will touch approximately 1200 students at both Nebraska City Public Schools and Lourdes Central Schools. Classroom teachers will be trained and each child will be provided a maquette (or scale model of the full sized object) with which they will get to create their own personal interpretation of the art object. Each class will then chose their favorite design and a half sized model will be completed. For the high school students, each high school will create four full sized pieces. On the public side, there will be a call to artists on a local, regional and national basis to submit designs of the same art object. A committee will jury the designs and will chose 20 to be funded on a full sized basis.
By spring of 2013, Nebraska City will have 46 half sized art pieces (all student pieces) and 24 full sized pieces ready for an unveiling and display until the art pieces are auctioned off in the fall of 2013 at a community auction event. The full size pieces could be approximately 6 feet tall. These pieces will be purchased and displayed at businesses, neighborhoods, schools, parks and City properties throughout Nebraska City.
If you are or know of an artist who would be interested in entering a piece for An Enchanted Arboretum, click on the flyer for details.

Getting Government Contracts Just Got Easier
As a collaboration between Nebraska City Housing, Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) and NCAEDC we are having contractors' work sessions to talk about what it takes to land a local 'governmental' contract. The first session is scheduled for October 11th and will be set up as a 'come and go' registration opportunity. The focus of the first session is to help contractors understand some of the acronyms and requirements of government bidding. The second session will provide individualized assistance to get the contractors registered on line for state and regional opportunities as well as the bidding processes for government contracts.
Our goal is to help clarify some of the red tape for individual contractors so they can broaden their job opportunities.
To register for the contractor session call NCAEDC at 402-873-4293
