Its All About

Making a

Positive Impact

on our Region

Greetings!
In an effort to improve communications with our partners, colleagues and residents, we publish this brief, monthly eNewslwtter.  If you have comments, questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact our office.  We value your input.

A quick economic development update from Nebraska City and Otoe County.

At a MINK (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas) meeting just this last week held at Wabaunsee Park, we had an opportunity to visit with professionals from both sides of the Missouri River, many of whom we had not seen since before the flooding. This group of more than 50 interested individuals meet quarterly to look at how we as communities can collaborate and grow as a region.  Comprised of individuals and professionals from communities and organizations in the corridor bordering the Missouri River from Council Bluffs and Omaha on the north to Kansas City on the South, we meet to strategize as to how our synergies can move us forward.

While the organization has been in existence for many years, last year's flooding brought to the fore front that while "separated by political lines" we are more connected as a region than political maps would infer.

The next MINK meeting is scheduled for October 4th at Peru State College.  You're welcome to join us.

The "Dirt" on Nebraska City

 (Construction Updates)

  • Construction is going on in earnest at Lourdes Central Catholic School. It is exciting to see things as they progress.
  • If you drive south of town on Hwy 75, you can see the path of the high pressure gas line from the Nebraska City OPPD Plant heading west.
  • The landscape is ever changing on the east side of the Missouri River, as the bulldozers and earthmoving equipment work like an army of ants to build the new Missouri River levy's foot print. It is hard to think about needing a new levy as we are experiencing one of the longest droughts in decades.
