Perfect ACT Score for Nebraska City Student
Nebraska City Lourdes' senior Colby McGinley was elected for a Nation Merit scholarship after completing the PSAT last year and scoring in the top 99% of those tested. He is one of only 16,000 finalists out of over 1.5 million students who participated. Colby said "It was a great honor to be nominated." Colby is in the process of applying for the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. If nominated, Colby will have an excellent chance of acceptance due to his perfect ACT score. If he is indeed accepted, he will not need the scholarship and would like it to go to a student that would use it. His words of advice to other students, "Start at a young age, be devoted to your studies and don't worry about your ACT score -- that will come. The more you worry, the more likely you are to do poorly"
Congratulations Colby!

From the Director:

If construction projects are a sign of a growing economy Nebraska City is definitely moving forward.
The Nebraska City Public School District recently completed multi-year, multi million dollar projects with improvements to two schools and a new K-2 grade school.
Lourdes Central Catholic School located in Nebraska City is starting a multi-million dollar investment in their facilities. This includes additions to the High School and new auditorium with plans to also improve the grade school. What a true demonstration of Nebraska City's commitment to education.
This summer residents are watching the improvements to 4th Corso as this street widening project takes shape. Be sure to check this out.
Just to the west and south of Nebraska City will be the installation of a new natural gas line connecting to Omaha Public Power District's Nebraska City units I and II. This will provide the coal fired power plant south of Nebraska City the option of using natural gas to start the plant after shut downs. We are very excited about this new opportunity of having a high volume natural gas source on the edge of Nebraska City. This investment by Omaha Public Power District will open new opportunities for areas in eastern Otoe County benefiting economic development.
Looking to the east into Iowa, along the east side of the Missouri River, you can start to see the foot print of the new Army Corp of Engineer's levy taking shape. This new stretch of levy, just over 5 miles long, will add a new level of protection to those along the river. This nstruction project is a major investment as the Corp of Engineer's works to build this new levy to protect areas that were savaged by last year's flood.
Driving north to Plattsmouth you'll see the Nebraska Department Of Roads' investment to improve Highway 75.is long term project will continue for several years.
Tis the season of Construction: Other projects of interest:
- U-Save Pharmacy (South 11th street)
- Syracuse Public Library
- Corner of 11th street and 11th Corso
So when you see these projects and are slowed by the activities, just remember these construction projects are adding millions of dollars of investment to the area!

Hard Work or Smart Work?
"I don't think winners beat the competition because they work harder. And it's not even clear that they win because they have more creativity. The secret, I think, is in understanding what matters. It's not obvious, and it changes. It changes by culture, by buyer, by product and even by the day of the week. But those that manage to capture the imagination, make sales and grow are doing it by perfecting the things that matter and ignoring the rest. Both parts are difficult, particularly when you are surrounded by people who insist on fretting about and working on the stuff that makes no difference at all."
