Greetings!
Welcome to spring 2011. We have certainly put our plants to the test this year with seismic activity and two dumpings of snow and guess what - they have come through unscathed.
Our new releases are showcasing in gardening magzines this spring and spring 2011 is proving to be our biggest year yet - we have some amazing goodies on offer.
Some of our spring stock hitting garden centres in the next few weeks are Lavender Bee Brilliant (this early flowering lavender is in full flower and blooming beautiful), our new release SuperCal Petchoas (simply supercalifraglistic) and Petunia Raspbery Blast and Blueberry Crush (perfect perennials whose perfomance will make you say wow). |

Plant Of The Month
SuperCal Petchoas
This tongue twisting series offer NZ gardeners an exciting new flowering perennial which combines the best characteristics of the Petunia and Calibrachoa (taking the Pet from Petunia and the Choa from Calibrachoa). Its sizzling hot colours offer continuous blooms of flower power and lush foliage. Bred to deliver maximum outdoor performance with tantalizing vigor the SuperCal Petchoa has a mounding habit - perfect for standalone pots and hanging baskets. And to top it off, with the eradictation of the sticky foliage that Petunias are renowned for, the SuperCal Petchoa flowers simply drop off easily from the plants as they age. The hardest decision you will have to make is choosing your favourite of the seven colours available: Blue, Cherry, Neon Rose, Purple, Terracotta, Vanilla Blush and Velvet.

Perennials That Make You Want To Say WOW
When Petunia Raspberry Blast wowed us last year with flower displays in sizzling bicolour pink the stage was set for the next colour explosion - try a taste of the blues with the new Blueberry Crush.

This new delectable Petunia has stunning blueberry/purple flowers which are highlighted with a distinctive violet throat which covers its cascading foliage. Both Petunias are bred for their trailing habit, continual flowering and tolerance to extreme heat. These low maintenance stunners are winners for containers, hanging baskets and garden beds. |

If you are a lover of lavender you will delight in the delicious selection of colour available in the 'Ruffles' lavender collection. Their chunky bracts atop their flower heads have distinctive ripples along their margins to give the ruffled appearance for which they have been named. Four 'Ruffles' colours are available this spring:
- Sugarberry (mauve and pink)
- Blueberry (deep mauve and purple)
- Boysenberry (musky pink with white swirling centres)
- Raspberry (pink)

Compact and neat in habit this selection is ideal for small garden spaces or in pots in entertainment areas, where their aroma can be appreciated as well as the flower colour. |

Gardening 'Solutionz'
If you have any gardening questions you would like answered - please contact us.
Question: Hi there - I am a very inexperienced gardener. I am finding your site very helpful. I'm not sure if you answer questions like this but I want to plant evenly spaced camellias in a border garden around a corner of my house - I am struggling to know what to plant in front of them as an edge. Not keen on buxus. Having seen your photos am thinking of lithospermum or dianella. What would work. Thanks
Jo
Answer: Hi Jo - thanks for your email. If you are not keen on a clipped hedge as a border (Teucruim with its silver colouring is a goodie), I think Dianellas would work really well - they require very little care. Depending on your garden border space - Emerald Arch will arch over and can get quite big while Blue Twist remains quite compact and has a more upright nature and its colouring is quite stunning and will provide quite a contrast against the camellias. Alternatively you could look at Loropetalum China Pink but you would have to keep it clipped to make a border. Best of luck!
Regards
Megan
