Greetings!
Well spring madness has struck at the nursery - new staff have been employed, the potting machine is working overtime and the fax machine is inundated with orders. We love this time of year! Plus a long weekend this weekend gives us all an excuse to get into the garden.
This month lavenders are all the rave! Our plant of the month is Convolvulus 'Cneorum' and a few other knockouts at the nursery this month, are the sensational lime green flowers of Euphorbia 'Kea', and the ground covering stunner Lithospermum 'Grace Ward'. | |
Plant Of The Month
Convolvulus 'Cneorum' - a shrub in all its glory
Don't let the name fool you. This decidedly stunning shrub is a friendly member of the Convolvulus genus and not a weed.
Convolvulus 'Cneorum' or bush morning glory is a compact evergreen shrub with stunning silky, silver foliage. From late spring through summer, its foliage bursts with showy white cup-shaped flowers. Try planting with the structured Astelia 'Silver Spear' or for a punch of colour, plant alongside the fabulous blue of the Lithospermum 'Grace Ward' or the lime green foliage and flowers of Euphorbia 'Kea'.
Convolvulus 'Cneorum' is not fussy ,its uses are varied and this one can be planted anywhere. This little number likes full sun or part shade and well drained soil. It will grow to 40cm by 1m and give it a light trim to tidy.
Convolvulus 'Cneorum' is available now in garden centres as a Hot 'n' Dry Solutionz. |
We Are Winners!
We are still on a bit of a high after receiving our award - being the best in the business is certainly an achievement we are very proud of! Greg now has his black jersery in the nursery and garden industry.
International nursery expert Michael Danelon from Nursery and Garden Association Australia was bought over to lead the judging. He travelled the country to visit the six finalist nurseries and after meeting the strict judging criteria we were announced the winners! This award is the highest accolade a nursery can receive in New Zealand.
Since winning the award the trophy has travelled the length of the South Island as we were keen to show it off to all our customers. We have had so much fun with the trophy that we thought we should share its travels with you - so this month we kick off a "Guess Where I Am?" competition; just to test your local knowledge skills!
Take a look at the photograph below of our trophy on tour - simply click here and write in the subject line where you think it is, along with your name, address and phone number. Just a wee hint - after this photo was taken, arsonists destroyed this colourful icon!
All correct entries will go in the draw to win a Gardening Solutionz bucket hat - perfect for keeping you sun safe in the approaching summer months. The winner will be drawn on the 30th November 2009 and will be notified by e-mail. Good luck! |
Want To Celebrate Spring?
Lithospermum 'Grace Ward' (aka Lithodora 'Grace Ward') is one of the most popular ground covers around and is prized for the exquisite, cobalt-blue small funnel shaped flowers that cover it all through summer. It also gets top marks for its perpetual coating of dark-green foliage, for its hardiness and for its mat forming habit. Available now in Garden Centres as a Groundcover Solutionz.
Euphorbia 'Kea'
Bred in the UK, this dramatic number forms a tight compact mound of deep blue-green foliage, continuously smothered with lime-green flowers from early September and throughout the summer months. Euphorbia 'Kea' maintains a superb habit, requiring very little care, making it a fantastic container and garden plant. Available now in Garden Centres as a Structured Solutionz. |

Gardening 'Solutionz'
If you have any gardening questions you would like answered - please contact us. This week's question is:
Question: Hi, I have Corokia Geentys Green planted and one has turned yellow and the others have a few yellow leaves. Could you please tell me what would be causing this problem? Thanks Brough
Answer: Hi Brough, It sounds like your Geentys Green could be suffering from root rot from the extreme of either too much water, or it could be suffering from a lack of water - too dry conditions. For root rot we would suggest you drench the soil in a fungicide which you should be able to get at your local garden centre.
