Have You Got A Shady Spot?

Brunnera JFFor those of you who have a spot of shade in your garden and are not quite sure of what to plant - Brunnera 'Jack Frost' is just the answer.
With its heart shaped frosted silver leaves, Brunnera 'Jack Frost' adds hard to find colour and dramatic texture to a shade garden.  Its perfectly formed, upward facing leaves offer a brillant backdrop for the small clusters of bright blue flowers that appear in Spring.  Also known as Siberian Bugloss which in Greek means Ox Tongue, this clump forming low maintenance perennial grows to 40 cm by 40 cm.  Recently released by us, this plant is proving a runaway success!
Phormiums, Flaxes, Tenax or Cookianum?

Phormium Evening Glow    Phormium Yellow Wave    Phormium Jester

Here at Gardening Solutionz we have narrowed down the choice of a few tried and true popular performers of our structured planting range:
Slightly confused?  Allow us to simplify the matter for you!  Phormium are otherwise known as the New Zealand flax, of which there two species - Tenax (stiff upright leaves) and Cookianum (soft flowing leaves).  As popular as ever for their easy maintenance habit and their native ability to enhance even the sorriest of gardens the New Zealand flax has a long history of many uses from fishing line and clothing to providing shelter and boat sails.  Named from the Greek phormium - a mat or basket (referring to the strong fibres produced by the leaves which were used for basket making), more recently Phormiums are being researched for their potential value in fabrics, pharmaceuticals and even cosmetics.

  • Phormium 'Evening Glow'
  • Phormium 'Yellow Wave'
  • Phormium 'Jester'
  • Phormium 'Black Rage'
  • Phormium 'Platt's Black'
These Phormiums will provide a wonderful structured yet functional look to your garden.  They are hardy and easy care whilst providing form and accent in your garden all year round.  It's the choice of colour that is up to you!
