Day of Caring
Dianne FamilyNearly 700 volunteers participated in the United Way of Greater Lorain County's 16th Annual Day of Caring on Friday, September 5th.  Day of Caring offers volunteers a first-hand opportunity to learn about health & human service needs in Lorain County.  Volunteer work gives companies, employees, and community groups an opportunity to make an impact.  Volunteers team up with our partner agencies and clients to complete hands-on projects at an agency, interact with clients, or organize an agency collection drive at their work place.  Link to Photos

PolyOne Golf Outing Raises $100,000 for United Way
 Jerry Golf
On Saturday, September 13th, PolyOne Corporation hosted a fundraising golf outing to benefit the 2008 United Way campaign.  Even though it was a "bit rainy", PolyOne and their suppliers, vendors and staff were there to support United Way....and, in a very BIG way. Presenting the check is (L-R) PolyOne's Thomas Kedrowski, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain & Operations to Jerry Skully, Executive Director of United Way.  Their support exemplifies good corporate citizenship in the spirit of giving back to your community.  Thank you so much from all of us at United Way and the many Lorain County citizens who will benefit from your generosity and hard work to the 2008 campaign.

Your Contribution at Work
Dianne FamilyThis mural arts project was recently unveiled at Admiral King High School in Lorain.  Common Ground (one of our newest agency partners), facilitates the mural arts project through funding from United Way.  The participants did a wonderful job and as you can imagine, are very proud of their work.  If you have the opportunity to visit Admiral King, make sure that you take a moment to visit the cafeteria area to take in this fantastic display of artwork.  The program aligns with our Nurturing Children & Youth impact area.  Participants develop an increased sense of connection to the community, learn about project management, decision-making, teamwork and goal setting.  It also increases self esteem through a sense of accomplishment and community recognition.
