Greetings!
United Way of Greater Lorain County kicked off their 2008 Campaign with a wonderfully successful Chicken & BBQ Ribs Dinner on August 15th. Over 300 people joined us for great food and beautiful weather. At the Kick-off, Doug Bloomfield, Vice President, Nordson Corporation and the 2008 Campaign Chair announced our campaign goal at $3 million! He challenges everyone to dig just a little bit deeper, perhaps by giving up a pizza & movie night or walking instead of renting a golf cart at the course, then donate that to United Way. If we all could make these minor changes in the "extras" that we do, the success of the campaign goal could be well within reach. BIG THANKS to our event sponsors, Nordson Corporation & Stewart Appliance. And, thanks to all who attended the event. We truly appreciate your support. And, we expect next year's Kick-off to be bigger & better. For event photos, click the Link.

| Meet Our United Way Campaign Representatives |
We proudly introduce Benjamin Mariner (L), and Dominica Giannuzzi (R) who have joined the United Ways staff as Campaign Representatives for the 2008 Campaign. The campaign is in full swing and these two representatives are working hard to make the fundraising campaign a success. As a Campaign Representitive, Ben & Dominica will interact with businesses of all communities in Lorain County. They will be responsible for working with Employee Campaign Managers in organizing, implementing and completing all campaigns within an assigned group of accounts, and educating the community of the benefits of donating to the United Way Campaign. The program runs for 15 weeks and is being sponsored by Nordson Corporation, R.W. Beckett Corporation and Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, LLC.
Benjamin is working towards his Associates Degree in Business Administration at LCCC and plans to continue his education for his Bachelor's degree through the LCCC/Kent State University Partnership Program. He resides in South Amherst.
Dominica will be graduating with her Bachelor's Degree via the LCCC/Kent State University Partnership Program this winter. She resides in Avon.
We are thrilled to have such young and eager talent as part of the Campaign. It's impressive that they realize the need and are willing to step up and help make a difference in the Lorain County community. |
Christmas in July...JHI Say Yes!
If you look out your window as you read this newsletter, you may have a hard time thinking of the Christmas Spirit. But Janotta & Herner, Inc. has done just that! JHI decided a few years ago to use the funds normally spent at Christmas for client gifts to instead go towards making a significant donation to area non-profits. This year is no different. JHI researched several charities and found the each of the area's United Way's have the best capacity to meet local needs, saying that the all-encompassing nature of our work insures that the maximum benefit will be derived from the donations that they give. So, on July 25th, JHI hosted a gathering in which they presented $1,000 checks to 10 area United Ways. JHI is based in Monroeville, OH but does business in Lorain County and wanted to give back to the areas where they do business and share their success. Pictured is Jeanette Willis of United Way of Greater Lorain County accepting the check from Ken Schafer, President of Janotta & Herner, Inc. Thanks for giving back! | |
