Dear Family and Friends,

Wow!  Does anyone else feel like it's a busy time of year?  My personal thoughts are that there has been Christmas supplies and decorations in most stores since Halloween and this makes it seem that we had all better get our ducks-in-a-row for the holiday season.  For goodness sake, it's not even Thanksgiving, yet.  The good news is we may get things done sooner and get to relax and truly enjoy the holidays.  Or, we can just feel the pressure of the "things we need to do" and the "stuff we need to buy" for the next couple of months.  It is really too much to think about; don't you agree?  For now let's just enjoy the day and take it from there.

As we anticipate the up-coming holidays, we also anticipate a warm welcome to Sunshine Gardens West new Administrator, Tanya Cangemie.  Tanya is the current Administrator of the Country Home and has been a part of the Sunshine Gardens team for over five years.  We are very excited to welcome Tanya to our facility!  She has a wealth of knowledge to share with our care staff and residents, alike.  Come by her office and say hello!

Whether you feel the holiday pressure or are simply anxious to enjoy some good times with friends and family, Happy Thanksgiving!  We don't feel the pressure as much at Sunshine Gardens and the Country Home.  We get to enjoy crafts, participate in holiday activities, and we don't even cook or decorate.  Are you kidding...pressure...what pressure?  The holidays are awesome!  All enjoy!

        Caregiver's Corner

By: Lou Gans, Sunshine Gardens Resident

Born in Cottonwood, AZ, this caregiver is a direct relative of a current, successful caregiver, Michale Cox.  In fact, Raymond is related to many of our awesome caregivers.  They have their own family team within our family!

Raymond resided in Denver and Cornville prior to residing in Durango.  He was enticed to move here by his parents.

Raymond attended Durango High and Mingus Union High School prior to Sunshine Gardens.  He proudly states that he is the son of Ray and Sherry Smart.  Sherry, by the way, is also a caregiver at Sunshine Gardens.

Ray has two siblings, Tylor and Arty, who live respectively in Colorado and Arizona.  With no future ambitions or previous distant voyages in his past, Raymond will spend his time building great memories and stories.  He is a young talent with a lot of ambition.  Raymond, we certainly wish you well for the future.

About Our Residents

By: Lou Gans, Sunshine Gardens Resident

Born in Childress County, Texas, this youthful caretaker migrated over many parts of Texas before traveling to Farmington, New Mexico, and eventually Durango.  Her name is Margaret Holt.

Margaret was a hair-stylist and home-maker.  She enjoyed both very much.  In fact, her mother was a homemaker and her father was a farmer.

Margaret attended her younger school years in Albuquerque, NM, and Palmer, CO.  She went to high school in Friona, TX, and beauty school in Amarillo, TX.

While Margaret is now a widow, she met him through her boss.  Together they have three daughters.  Two live here in Durango, Kay and Susan and another in Camino, California.

Her many interests include cooking, entertaining, and sewing.  Margaret also taught Sunday School in her spare time and served as the president of the local PEO chapter.

We are so proud of your ambition and accomplishments.  You should be, too!  You are very vibrant and active.  Don't quit!

INNER STRENGTH

If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,

If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,

If you can overlook when people take things out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,

If you can face the world without lies and deceit,

If you can conquer tension without medical help,

If you can relax without liquor,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

Then...........

.....you are probably a dog.

We hope that you all had a great Halloween are truly looking forward to another fun month at Sunshine Gardens!  Please invite friends and family to participate in our many activities.  We love having guests!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones!  Blessings!

Sincerely,
