FEATURED RESIDENTS By: Lou Gans, Sunshine Gardens Resident
The only Sunshine Gardens resident, to our knowledge, to have been born in Mercy Hospital is this one. His name is Clyde Wayne Reider who loves to go outside for his daily, long walks. You may see him walking down 32nd Street.
Clyde resided over a period of time in Ignacio, Brighton, Phoenix, and, of course, Durango.
His occupations included carpentry, heavy equipment operator, and also bar tending.
Clyde attended Ignacio High School while his father did farming and his mother cared for the children.
In 1962, Clyde was discharged from the 82nd Airborne Division. He aspired to be a Smoke Jumper fighting forest fires, but was denied the opportunity because he did not have a high school diploma. Despite this, he achieved 82 registered jumps!
Clyde, keep enjoying your walks. We admire your dedication. Perhaps one of your 6 siblings will surprise you by visiting you at Sunshine Gardens West! Wouldn't that be great!
We welcome these two new Sunshine Gardens condo residents, mild, and soft-spoken Dr. Charles Swift and the lovely M'Lou Swift. Dr. Swift retired as a psychiatrist years ago and his wife was a former teacher.
Born in Montana, Charles mainly resided in Philadelphia, New York City, Pittsburgh, and Dar Es Salaam (Where the heck is that?)
Dr. Sift's education includes Yale University, and Hahneman Medical School. Mrs. Swift has a degree in education, specializing in physical education from a university in Connecticut, subsequently, teaching that subject.
He and his wife met while acting as co-chairman of New England Student Christian Group.
They have 6 children (5 who are still alive). Barb lives in Tennessee, Ken in Wisconsin, Pat in California, Steve in California, and Betsy in Durango.
Dr. Swifts initial plan coming to Durango was to direct a mental health program to the staff of La Plata County Employees.
An outstanding voyage in their lives include an eight year job in Tanzania. Undoubtedly, it must've been filled with excitement and education.
Dr. and Mrs. Swift, we are delighted and enthralled to have you both as condo residents of Sunshine Gardens and hope you feel the same!!!

CAREGIVER'S CORNER
By: Lou Gans, Sunshine Gardens Resident A caregiver whose hours are from 10:00 PM 'till 6:00 AM is rarely seen by Sunshine Gardens residents.
Nonetheless, their duties are important to the overall picture of things. Henceforth, say hello to Melony Hall.
Born in Cody, Wyoming, she lived throughout New York State, Bayfield, and now Durango with her family.
At Pueblo Community College, Melony excelled in Early Childhood Education and Nursing. Her occupations varied including Dietary Aid, CNA, Pre-school Director's Assistant, and she worked with disabled children.
Melony has three sisters in New York and a brother in Durango. Melony's two children Sanae and Trevor live with her.
She aspires to finish school and buy a house. Her mom and herself have the same birth date and her son, Trevor, proceeds them by 5 hours.
With your spirit and eagerness to accomplish in certain areas of your life, your wishes shall be fulfilled.
Lesley Hall, a caregiver sleeps while the rest of us see daylight. Born in Lancaster, California, Lesley also lived in Parker, AZ, Farmington, Aztec, Illinois, and Pueblo, CO. However, her family resided in Durango since 1973.
Her occupations include everything you can find in a dictionary.
Brother's Frank and Britt live in Durango, Deanna in Ignacio and Justin lives in Aztec.
Lesley has two children, Trevis and Shaylene, both living in Durango.
Her voyages up until now have been few, but she would like to visit more sites in the United States.
However, whenever more bucks enter her bank account, she would love to travel through a few foreign countries.
When that happens, Lesley, take me with you! I'll pay my share! ;-) |
