Dear Family and Friends,
April is here! I love April for many reasons. . .the smells of spring, the fresh blossoming of beautiful trees, and the chorus of birds chirping throughout the day! We welcome April with much anticipation!
Speaking of anticipation, my baby girl, Kayli Ava, is scheduled to be born April 16th! Sunshine Gardens residents love little feet running around (and I'm not talking about Administrator Joanna Dominguez, who makes the rest of us look like BIG FOOT). I look forward to sharing Kayli's love, along with my son Camden's, with the residents! Exciting! I will be on maternity leave for several weeks. Please feel free to contact Sunshine Gardens and leave a message if you need to get in touch with me. I will be checking messages and voicemail!
Sunshine Gardens residents tell me that they are equally excited for April. They are anxious to get outside more and enjoy the lovely Durango sites! They also warn me that an unexpected April shower (meaning SNOW) may fall this month. It probably will come during a week of mid 60 degree weather and just shock us. It seems that our Durango weather likes to keep us on our toes. Thanks for that!
We have many things to look forward to and much to be thankful for! We continue to bloom and grow at Sunshine Gardens and thank everyone who is a part of the greatness! |

Lord I Want to Live to Be, Well, Older
Contributed By:Gina Pruett, Sunshine Gardens Resident
Today Dear Lord, I'm 80 and there's much I haven't done. I hope dear Lord you'll let me live until I'm 81. But then, If I haven't finished all I want to do, would you let me stay awhile--until I'm 82?
So many places I want to go, so very much to see--Do you think that you could manage to make it 83? The world is changing very fast. There is so much in store. I'd like it very much to live until I'm 84.
And if by then I'm still alive, I'd like to stay 'til 85--more planes will be up in the air, so I'd really like to stick and see what happens to the world when I'm 86. I know dear Lord it's much to ask (and it must be nice in heaven), but I would really like to stay until I'm 87.
I know by then I won't be fast and sometimes will be late; but it would be so pleasant to be around at 88. I will have seen so many things, and had a wonderful time,. So, I'm sure that I'll be willing to leave at 89. . .maybe
I'm 90 Lord, my mind is sound; I like it here- I can still walk around. My time is limited I know, and someday I'll have to go! I'm not greedy or guided by fears; I want to see what happens in the next few years. I'm sure you've heard this plea before, but my bags will be packed at 104! |

Caregiver's Corner By: Resident Lou Gans
This caregiver was born in Boulder, CO, and effervesces with an abundance of love. Her name is Michelle Burrows, now Michelle Smith.
At a real young age, she (along with her parents) moved to numerous locations throughout Colorado. However, when she was 7, they settled in Red Mesa, which borders Hesperus. They still reside there.
After having graduated from Durango High School in 2007, she pursued a college education for a short while. Michelle temporarily holds in reserve this path.
Last year, she married her 7th grade sweetheart with whom she dated for 4 years prior. They anxiously await their first born child due in August. Her sister -in-law, being her best friend, too is pregnant and together they look forward to bringing up their off-spring together.
Michelle's mother, a nurse, is now single and is so proud of her five children.
Michelle, as a Sunshine Gardens West caregiver, considers her work as the best position she ever held. We residents are so happy to have you care for us!

FEATURED RESIDENT By: Lou Gans, Sunshine Gardens Resident
Born in Houston, Texas, living there the early years of her life, is Ellie Dezendorf. She was employed at a well known department store as a sales person.
Along with her husband, they enjoyed quiet moments being together at home with little or no desire to travel. Both loved a simple, life.
Ellie is a high school graduate. She and her husband had three children; one living in Durango, one in Farmington, and the third lives elsewhere.
Ellie moved to Durango in the 40's. Her husband was employed at Fort Lewis College. He has since past away.
To this day, Ellie loves her peace and quiet. We enjoy your living at Sunshine Gardens. Rest assured, as long as you're here, peace and quiet are guaranteed.
