Dear Family and Friends,
March, March, March. It kind of reminds me of that song, the ants go marching one-by-one, hurrah, hurrah. Do you remember that song? We could make it fun and sing the residents go marching one-by-one, hurrah, hurrah. I am sure we could find some silly lines to throw in there. Last year we participated in a talent show and sang, "Oh give me a home where the residents roam where bingo is played everyday. ." to the tune of "Oh give me a home where the buffalos roam." We like to keep things light and fun here!
The weather sure is showing hints of spring and soon our residents will be walking (or marching if they wish) outside, around the neighborhood participating in our walking club. It is a great way for them to get fresh air, good exercise, and see beautiful wildlife and flowers. These are the little moments that are worth cherishing.
Many things in life are worth cherishing, including your loved ones! Feel free to talk about this or other topics on your mind on our new blog site www.DurangoSeniors.org. I have posted a personal testimonial and another topic of interest. Please comment, write your own story, or simply forward the site onto a friend. We really hope to establish a great network and resource for people in the United States and around the world! Check it out! There is also a great resource tool on the blog site called the e-book that lists national pricing averages for assisted living facilities and nursing homes throughout the U.S. Feel free to sign up for this free on-line book. I found it very interesting and a useful tool. www.DurangoSeniors.org/ebook.
Happy March, Harrah, Harrah!!!

Valentine's Day Dinner and Dance 2-13-2009 By: Gina Pruett, Sunshine Gardens Resident
And what a party it was! After a wonderful dinner, served on white table cloths with candles, the tables were moved to make room for a dance floor. And there was quite a bit of dancing going on. our new maintenance man, Ben, brought some friends (good-looking cowboys) for the ladies to dance with! And the music did the rest to make it a great success.
A good time was had by all! Thank you Rachael, our Activities Director, and all employees who participated.

The Caregivers Corner Contributed By: Lou Gans (WELCOME BACK), Sunshine Gardens Resident
One of our younger, energetic and helpful caregiver regulars is little Kellie Thompson. She was born in Sacramento, CA, and lived there with 6 (Yes 6) younger brothers. She resided there until she was 14, at which time the whole tribe moved to Durango.
Spending 2 years here, Kellie also went to High School at Durango High before moving back to Sacramento. She completed her high school there. Approximately a year ago, they all returned to Durango. It was then she started her employment at Sunshine Gardens West. Kellie enjoys part of her social life playing with her pet turtle.
In the future she aspires to indulge in social work in which we are sure she will succeed. GOOD LUCK!!!
Here is a welcome story about Amber Kendrick. This caregiver was born in Arlington, NM, when she was very young (1980). Her high degree of intelligence and pleasant disposition attracts everyone to her. As a result, the Sunshine Gardens residents to whom she caters benefit from her presence.
Prior to moving to Durango, Amber lived in a variety of cities, which include St. Louis, MO; St. George, UT; Mesquite, NV;and San Diego, CA. She desired to live in the mountains, as she loves to fish and hike, thus she moved to Durango four years ago.
Marrying the most wonderful person she has ever known, Amber and Kenneth Kendrick are very happy. They love their offspring they named Timothy Mathew, Ezekiel Zachariah, and Kalifornia Sky. The selection of their names partially indicates her religious beliefs.
Amber loves caring for people. Working at Sunshine Gardens each day offers great personal satisfaction. Says Amber, "life is wonderful." She has aspirations to go to college to earn an art degree to teach kids where to begin. Amber plans to travel to Australia, Greece, Rome, and throughout the U.S. Amber, we applaud you.

FEATURED RESIDENT By: Lou Gans, Sunshine Gardens Resident
Full of spunk and vivaciousness, this Sunshine Gardens Resident is always ready to go, no matter what. Her name is Rose Suster. Born in Long Island, NY, Rose obviously loved living there by spending 50 years in this town located outside New York City. An urge to see another part of our spacious country uprooted her from the NY area, henceforth, moving her to Ft. Lauderdale for a while, just 38 years. She met the man of her life in 1940 at a baseball game and they enjoyed each other for 68 years. Together they enjoyed trips to Africa, the Canary Islands, and everywhere throughout the U.S. Their marriage blessed them with two sons.
Their son, Kenneth, is married to a woman named Sue. Put those 2 names together (Ken and Sue) and if you haven't visited their popular, successful gourmet restaurant in Durango, you are missing an opportunity of a life time.
Rose's husband was a very successful realtor and owner of a construction company. Rose is the 6th of 16 children. Her parents apparently did not own a TV set. Rose's hobbies include gambling and cards, and winning! Rose, we love you just the way you are!!!!
