Run 4 the Homeless raises more than $22,000
On Saturday, June 16, more than 500 runners came out to Haymarket Park to run 3.1 miles or walk 1 mile in support of the Mission and the goal of ending homelessness in Lincoln. Participants in the 4th annual Run 4 the Homeless raised more than $22,000 for PCM and had the opportunity to learn more about our work in the community.
Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support for the Mission. A special thank you goes out to our sponsors: Union Bank, MAS LifeStyle, KLKN, Planet Earth, MonaVie, KFRX, Myotherapy Institute, and Cornhusker Crossfit. And thanks to Lincoln Fire Station 3 for doing a rig demo at the event!

In her own words: Why I run
People came out to participate in the Run 4 the Homeless event for many different reasons. In the days leading up to the race, one runner shared her reasons on our blog.
"The Run 4 the Homeless 5k is just days away, and I’m excited to lace up my running shoes for the three-mile trek along the Salt Creek Trail with my race buddy and a few hundred other Lincolnites. Since getting into running a few years ago, I’ve run a couple of local races and have even signed up for a Color Run down in New Orleans this fall. But the Mission’s Run 4 the Homeless remains my favorite race of all, because it’s the only one that gives me the opportunity to connect my favorite physical activity to the charitable cause that’s nearest to my heart."

In her own words: A letter from a volunteer
"Dear Mr. Hand,
My name is Jackie, and I go to Lincoln East High School. I volunteered at the People's City Mission in the kitchen serving food on March 15th, 2012.
I was glad the opportunity arose over my spring break that I could serve in the People's City Mission kitchen. I was able to help put the food out, serve it, and clean up afterwards. I really thought that it was an eye-opening experience to the amount of need in our own community. The teamwork it took to even make just a lunch happen amazed me."

"There's not enough I can do to pay you people back, there's not. I'm a lover of words and I don't know enough adjectives and adverbs to describe you people. You're just marvelous and we are blessed."
