Pastor Tom: Dig Deeper
Here is an interesting and mostly unknown fact about Nebraska. When the American West first opened up, many people passed through what was then called the territory of Nebraska, searching for new farmland. As groups of people rode and walked across this area of the country they noticed two things about it. First, the dirt is rich and black (a good thing). However, there was no water anywhere (not a good thing). . .

In his own words: Roy's story
My name is Roy and I have lived at the Curtis Center since April 2011. I am moving to Beatrice to be closer to my family, and I wanted to share with you my journey and how living here has made me a better person.
While staying at the Mission, I attended New Testament class and had weekly meetings with the chaplain, and throughout my stay I was able to grow spiritually and strengthen my relationship with God. Another part of my life I was able to improve is overcoming my addiction. I am a recovering alcoholic and through attendance at AA meetings, daily reading of the bible and prayer, I now have 15 months of sobriety. I also took part in the work program by working in the kitchen and on the maintenance crew. By doing so, I gained valuable skills and a good work ethic. All of the counselors were always helpful and whenever I was going through rough times, they were read to listen and assist my in any way they could.

Register now for Run 4 the Homeless!
The Run 4 the Homeless 5k race and 1 mile walk is just over two weeks away, but you can still register to join us on June 16. This year, runners are able to create teams and personalized fundraising pages to help tell the story of why they run. Many individuals have personal connections with the Mission, and many more run to support our goals in the community. No matter the reasons, we are thrilled to provide people with the opportunity to do something great for the body and for the community.
You don't have to be a runner to participate in the event, either. If you would like to help out, but aren't into running, you can sign up to be a "virtual runner/walker" on the run's website.

Car wash at UNO to support PCM Medical Clinic
Hope Npimnee, a student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, will be hosting a free-will donation car wash at the Scott Residence Hall on Sunday, June 10 from 1PM to 4PM, to benefit the People's City Mission Free Medical Clinic. Hope arranged the car wash fundraiser as part of his presidential campaign for Student Advisory Board at UNMC .
The clinic is one of the largest in the nation, and the number of people served this year indicates another period of rapid growth in operations at the Mission.
If you're in the area, please consider stopping by from 1pm to 4pm on June 10 for a great cause!
"The people here have been so supportive and encouraging. It's really made the situation easier, to know that they're there for me."
