Pastor Tom: On Human Approval
“Do I seek human approval or God’s approval? Should I focus on trying to please people? If I do,
I can’t really be a servant of God.” (Galatians 1:10)
Did you know the need for approval can be as addictive as drugs or alcohol? I see this
need a lot in our guests. Many of them struggle with self-esteem issues and rejection of
any kind can be very difficult to handle.

Mission receives more than $6,000 as part of Give to Lincoln Day
On Thursday, May 17, 115 individuals donated $9,485 to the Mission as part of the annual Give to Lincoln Day event. Designed to promote philanthropy in Lincoln and Lancaster County, the even consisted of 24 hours of online giving to more than 100 local nonprofits.
The Lincoln Community Foundation, organizer of Give to Lincoln Day, also set up a matching challenge as part of the event. Donations were matched with a proportional share of a $200,000 challenge match pool of funds. Every nonprofit received a proportional share
based upon their percentage of dollars raised. in addition, the top three organizationswith greatest number of donors received bonus grants of $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 respectively.
Thank you to all who gave on May 17 in support of the Mission and Give to Lincoln Day. Your kindhearted generosity is very much appreciated by all of us here at the People's City Mission.
Run 4 the Homeless registration is now open!
On June 16, runners from throughout the Lincoln community will come together to celebrate and support the Mission with our annual 5k race and 1 mile walk. Registration for the event is now open. This year, runners are able to create teams and personalized fundraising pages to help tell the story of why they run. Many individuals have personal connections with the Mission, and many more run to support our goals in the community. No matter the reasons, we are thrilled to provide people with the opportunity to do something great for the body and for the community.

Volunteer with Camp EDEFY this summer
How would you like to help make a difference in a child’s life this summer? We are currently
looking for help in all areas of our summer youth program, CAMP E.D.E.F.Y. We are looking
for groups or individuals to come and spend a few days, a week, or a whole summer with
our school age youth. We are also looking for 2 lead interns who will oversee, implement,
and run our daily youth program. This can be used for college credit and we will offer room
and board if so desired.
Camp E.D.E.F.Y. stands for Encouragement, Discipleship, Evangelism and Fellowship for
Youth. We will strive to provide a fun, safe and educational summer program. In the past we
have led bible stories, crafts, basketball games, cultural outings, horseback riding,
swimming, and much more! The program will run from early June to early August.
Many of the children at Peoples City Mission, who range in age from toddler to high school,
are at-risk and socially or economically disadvantaged. These children come from broken
homes and know the sting of abuse. Our summer program gives these children the chance
to have fun, escape their stressful situations and a give a chance to learn and grow. For the
volunteer/intern it is a life changing experience in which you will grow in your faith and
definitely change lives!
If you would like to volunteer on a short term basis, have ideas of your own, or would like
more info about our Summer Program Lead Intern positions please contact Kyle Winchell at
kwinchell@peoplescitymission.org or 402-475-1303.
"If it were not for the People's City Mission my children and I would not have a home or clothing. Moving to Lincoln was not and has not been easy but the Mission has been a big help."
