Cornhusker Bank's One Day Without Shoes
On April 10th, Cornhusker Bank and People’s City Mission partnered to help raise awareness of the impact a need for a pair of shoes can have on a person’s life by hosting the One Day without Shoes event. Throughout that week the public was encouraged to bring in new shoes, their worn shoes that they no longer needed or cash donations to help put shoes on the less fortunate feet of Lincoln. By the end of the week, the six Lincoln Cornhusker Banks and over sixty other community partners had collected nearly 4,700 pairs of shoes and a raised donations totaling $9,000!

Thank You for Participating in Citywide Recycling Day!
The People’s City Mission held our first Citywide Recycling Day on Saturday, April 28th at all ten Russ’s Market and Super Saver locations across Lincoln to kick off our newest program, Mission Recycle. The Mission asked the public to bring any unwanted clothing and accessories including shoes, hats, purses, and belts in any condition, and donate them to a great cause. The result was an amazing outpouring of support from the community and over three semi trailers worth of clothing, shoes, and household items collected in seven hours!

May 17 has been declared Give to Lincoln Day by our city mayor and the Lincoln Community Foundation. Designed to promote philanthropy in Lincoln and Lancaster County, the event consists of 24 hours of online giving that will offer donors exposure to more than 100 local nonprofits. This day

the community.
The Lincoln Community Foundation has set up a challenge match for gifts made on this day. All donations will be matched with a proportional share of a $200,000 challenge match pool of funds. Every nonprofit will receive a proportional share
based upon their percentage of dollars raised on May 17. in addition, the top three organizations that have the greatest number of donors making gifts on this day will receive bonus grants of $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 respectively.
Gifts associated with Give to Lincoln Day must be made on May 17, either in person at the Lincoln Community Foundation, 215 Centennial Mall South, or online at www.GivetoLincoln.com. Movers for Moms is underway, ends May 13
Though Mother’s Day is intended to be a joyous occasion for
women across the country, thousands of moms will be overlooked on this special holiday
because they are forced to live in shelters as a result of domestic abuse or homelessness.
Heartbreaking statistics from the Domestic Violence Resource Center state that one in every four
women has experienced violence in an intimate relationship, every day three women are killed
by their partners, and 74 percent of Americans know a victim of domestic violence. According
to a national study from the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence,
approximately 25 percent of homeless women are homeless because of violence in the home.
To ensure moms in crisis receive the love and appreciation they deserve this Mother’s Day, Two Men and a Truck of Lincoln is hosting its Movers for Moms collection drive to provide
critical gifts to local women staying in community shelters this spring. Individuals and businesses in the community are invited to make donations at drop boxes located at Lincoln Christian School and both locations of La Petite Academy. Individuals moving with the company can just give their donated items to their movers, who will deliver them free of charge.
This year, the Lincoln moving company is working with local schools to collect essential and comfort items for women staying at the People’s City Mission
in Lincoln. Items needed include toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, makeup, toilet paper and any other toiletries, clothes in any condition, and any usable furniture.
“We can’t say enough about what Two Men and A Truck does for the Mission," said Pastor Tom Barber. "And this collection
will benefit us in so many ways. Not only will we use items specifically donated for Mothers
affected by domestic violence, but we will take any other item and recycle it. The money
generated will help us continue to feed, house and care for those in need. So, please don’t
hesitate to give the Two Men and A Truck movers all you no longer need...we will find a use for
it.."
The Lincoln event will be ending May 13. This spring marks the fifth anniversary of Movers for Moms. Since its introduction, the
program has expanded to 24 states and more than 80 franchises. Last year was the program’s
most successful year-to-date, with more than 65,000 items collected for donation to 50 shelters
across 14 states. This year, Two Men and a Truck is seeking to collect more than 100,000
items for moms in need across the country.

Run 4 the Homeless registration is now open!
On June 16, runners from throughout the Lincoln community will come together to celebrate and support the Mission with our annual 5k race and 1 mile walk. Registration for the event is now open. This year, runners are able to create teams and personalized fundraising pages to help tell the story of why they run. Many individuals have personal connections with the Mission, and many more run to support our goals in the community. No matter the reasons, we are thrilled to provide people with the opportunity to do something great for the body and for the community.

Volunteer with Camp EDEFY this summer
How would you like to help make a difference in a child’s life this summer? We are currently
looking for help in all areas of our summer youth program, CAMP E.D.E.F.Y. We are looking
for groups or individuals to come and spend a few days, a week, or a whole summer with
our school age youth. We are also looking for 2 lead interns who will oversee, implement,
and run our daily youth program. This can be used for college credit and we will offer room
and board if so desired.
Camp E.D.E.F.Y. stands for Encouragement, Discipleship, Evangelism and Fellowship for
Youth. We will strive to provide a fun, safe and educational summer program. In the past we
have led bible stories, crafts, basketball games, cultural outings, horseback riding,
swimming, and much more! The program will run from early June to early August.
Many of the children at Peoples City Mission, who range in age from toddler to high school,
are at-risk and socially or economically disadvantaged. These children come from broken
homes and know the sting of abuse. Our summer program gives these children the chance
to have fun, escape their stressful situations and a give a chance to learn and grow. For the
volunteer/intern it is a life changing experience in which you will grow in your faith and
definitely change lives!
If you would like to volunteer on a short term basis, have ideas of your own, or would like
more info about our Summer Program Lead Intern positions please contact Kyle Winchell at
kwinchell@peoplescitymission.org or 402-475-1303.
