Meet Robert
Robert Hilgenburg’s mother loved American Beauty roses. The rose bushes were the only flowers she grew, and she would sing to the plants as she tended them. Having grown up being abused by his father, these happy memories of his mother have stuck with Robert, who is now out to beautify the Mission as the sole groundskeeper.

Cornhusker Bank: One Day Without Shoes
Tomorrow (April 10) marks Cornhusker Bank's second annual One Day Without Shoes, to benefit the People’s City Mission. More than 65 collection sites at participating businesses across Lincoln have been collecting new and used shoes for the homeless and impoverished of Lincoln (the collections are ongoing through April 14). On April 10, Cornhusker Bank will host a One Day Without Shoes event beginning at 10:30 am. Participants are invited to meet at Cornhusker Bank’s main branch (at 11th and Cornhusker) and then walk to People’s City Mission for lunch and a tour of our facility.
As a part of their One Day Without Shoes event, the Cornhusker Bank branches are currently selling "feet" for $1.00. Purchase a foot and put your name on it to display at the branch. Purchase 5 "feet" and you will also get a coupon for a free McDonalds Frappe(while supplies last). All proceeds benefit the Mission.
Now through April 11, Cornhusker Bank will also donate $1.00 to the Mission for every new “like” on their Facebook Page. Click here to "like" it now!

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can bring unwanted clothing and accessories to any Russ’s Market or Super Saver location and donate them as part of our Citywide Recycling Day. Wearable clothing will be offered to guests staying at the Mission, as well as distributed to the impoverished in our community at the Homeless Prevention Center.
You have a closet full of clothes you don’t want or need anymore. We have thousands of people who are struggling to keep clothes on their backs. Participate in the Citywide Recycling Day and help us clothe the needy!
Bennet Youth Group serves at the Mission as part of "30-hour Famine"
Last month, students from the Bennet Youth Group (BYG) at Bennet Community Church served at the Mission as part of what they call the 30-hour famine. For 30 hours, students gave up eating and instead focused on deepening their relationship with God and serving others.
This year’s event was the fifth famine for BYG. In the past, students have collected food for donating, visited a nursing home, and even cleaned and organized the church facilities. On March 11, they chose to end their weekend of fasting and prayer by serving a meal to guests at the Mission.
Reverend Darin Corder, the leader of BYG, said he hoped the famine would teach his kids that people struggle to find food every day right here in Lincoln. “Hunger, poverty, and homelessness is a real concern if not an epidemic in the world,” he said. The biggest takeaway for youth participating in the famine, however was the realization that your circumstances don’t prevent you from responding to God’s call to care for others. “Even when facing a challenge in life, such as not eating, we as Christians can still do good and do God’s work,” said Corder.
Thank you, BYG, for including the Mission in your efforts!
