Mission Recycle
The Mission is excited to introduce our new recycling program, Mission Recycle. Churches, neighborhood associations, and retail stores throughout Lincoln will be collecting used clothing and other items. Wearable items will be donated to Mission guests, while nonwearable items will be recycled into scrap materials used by local companies.
Collection sites will be located at churches, neighborhood garage sales, and retail stores. The Mission arranges a regular schedule for pickups, and all proceeds from recycled scraps benefit the Mission directly.
Carly Manijak, the Mission’s marketing intern primarily in charge of arranging the recycling program, said she hopes that having an on-going recycling program will make it easier for people to give to the Mission, since they can do so whenever they want instead of waiting for a one-time clothing drive. What’s more, the Mission’s program will accept more than just clothing. Household supplies, plastic bottles, and other items will also be accepted—and everything directly supports the Mission and our guests.
To kick-start the program, the Mission will be hosting a citywide Recycling Day on April 28th, when multiple donation sites will be set up throughout Lincoln. On April 29th, Lincoln churches will kick off their programs and establish their pickup sites.
If you are interested in participating in Mission Recycle, please contact Carly Manijak at

Cornhusker Bank: One Day Without Shoes
Cornhusker Bank will participate in the national event, One Day Without Shoes, on April 10 to benefit the People’s City Mission. More than 65 collection sites at participating businesses across Lincoln will be collecting new and used shoes April 2–14 for the homeless and impoverished of Lincoln. On April 10, Cornhusker Bank will host a One Day Without Shoes event beginning at 10:30 am. Participants are invited to meet at Cornhusker Bank’s main branch (at 11th and Cornhusker) and then walk to People’s City Mission for lunch and a tour of our facility.
As a part of their One Day Without Shoes event, the Cornhusker Bank branches are currently selling "feet" for $1.00. Purchase a foot and put your name on it to display at the branch. Purchase 5 "feet" and you will also get a coupon for a free McDonalds Frappe(while supplies last). All proceeds benefit the Mission.
Now through April 11, Cornhusker Bank will also donate $1.00 to the Mission for every new “like” on their Facebook page.
Meet Carly
>
When Carly Manijak got in touch with the Mission, she wasn’t expecting to become a full-time marketing intern for 10 weeks. She was just trying to fill her time during the spring while she waited for a summer position to begin. But the Mission needed help getting their new recycling program off the ground, and Carly needed the internship credits to complete her degree at UNL. One thing led to another, and now Carly spends her time organizing programs and assisting with Mission events.
